BEN KENTPlace Activation, Inglewood on Beaufort

I sit on Inglewood on Beaufort’s Management Committee where I have developed a Place Activation Plan based on extensive community consultation. The Plan aims to bring more vibrancy and activity to our stretch of Beaufort Street and surrounding suburbs. I am coordinating groups of interested and engaged community members who are working to bring in more public art, culture and events, start a community garden and activate our underutilised town square.

In under a year, I have successfully secured over $20,000 in funds from State and Federal Governments to enable IoB to deliver a variety of placemaking initiatives such as much needed seating, planter boxes, murals, lighting in our civic centre, bike parking and wayfinding signage. Due to the development of the Place Activation Plan, the Federal government committed $50,000 towards its implementation.

I am working with local businesses to activate empty shop fronts and create a string of urban plazas along Beaufort Street with seating, shade and greenery.
