Due to a mixup with the bus company, the soccer team didn’t get to play in their final. The team were obviously very disappointed. Although netball and sofcrosse played well, they didn’t come away with the winner’s pennant this year. All teams have enjoyed Friday sport, and the grade 5/6 students are eagerly looking forward to participating in softball, volleystars, bat tennis and basketball in late August. Science Night: Keep Tuesday evening August 15 th free! Both campuses will be holding our annual Science night. West Campus will hold theirs in the hall and Valley Campus in the LEC. We will begin the evening at 6. 00 p.m. and the Science activities will run for an hour. Families will be free to move around the venue and participate in some exciting scientific experiments. Parent Opinion Survey: The new online survey opened on August 7 th , and will close on August 27 th . If you were one of the families who were randomly chosen to participate, then please complete the survey as soon as possible. It should only take about 15 minutes on any internet connected device even your mobile phone! If you need assistance at all, please contact either Office for help. Thank you for your role in this important data collection. Outdoor Education Program for 2018: If you have a child in grade 4 or 5 this year, then they will be going to Gundiwindi Camp in March, 2018 for three days. The information night will be held at West Campus for all families, in the 5/6 unit. The evening will begin at 6.30 and will take approximately one hour. Interpreters will be available, so please come along and hear about the exciting activities that will be provided at Gundiwindi Camp. Woodleigh Excursion: I’d like to thank Woodleigh for their continued involvement with our school. Each term they host a day at their school for one of our year levels. Tomorrow, all of the students in grade 3/4 will travel to Woodleigh, an independent school on the Mornington Peninsula. The activities that they offer are quite different for each age group that attends. I’m sure there’ll be more information in the next newsletter about the excursion. Parent Opinion Survey 2017 WE WANT OUR PARENTS TO TELL US WHAT THEY

THINK Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is conducted amongst a sample of ran-domly selected parents at each school. It is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents’ perception of school climate,

student engagement and relationships with our parent community. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the fieldwork period from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August. Approximately 20 per cent of parents will be invited to participate in this year’s survey. All responses to the

survey are anonymous. Randomly chosen families will be provided with a unique survey link on Monday August 7th. The online survey is available in English, Arabic, Vietnamese, Mandarin, Chin (Hakha) and Hindi. Survey language guides will be provided in a range of languages including Albanian, Bengali, Burmese, Cantonese, Dari, Filipino, Greek, Gujarati, Indonesian, Japanese, Karen, Khmer, Korean, Macedonian, Malayalam, Pashto, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Serbian, Sinhalese, Somali, Spanish, Tagalog, Tamil, Telugu, Turkish or Urdu. The survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September. We will communicate the survey results to families through School Council, and in the newsletter. First Aid

Today Matthew came to our school to teach us about first aid. First, Matthew taught us about an emergency. Then, we pretended people needed help. Finally we wrapped a friend in a bandage. we like first aid so we can help people. By Foundation Valley

CURRICULUM DAY On Wednesday August 30th, we will be holding our final curriculum day for 2017.

The staff will be at school for the day, but children do not attend.

I will report back to School Council about the focus for our day together.

Father’s Day Celebrations: Children will be able to buy something for a significant male in their lives just before Father’s Day on

September 3rd.

We will also have our Father’s Day breakfast on

Friday, September 1st at both campuses.

An invitation will be coming home this week, so look out for it in your child’s bag. I look forward to seeing you all at the breakfast, where we’ll have bacon, eggs, juice and cereal on the menu.

St. John’s First Aid Visit In Today the student’s of Spring Parks Primary School, had a visit in from St. John’s First Aid to teach the wonderful students about First Aid. In Mrs. Ary’s class we had Natalie, she was nice and cheerful. She had brown, curly hair and she brought along a mannequin friend named Ron. He was bald and had no legs. Natalie taught us how to put people into the recovery position. By Preston

Hello, today we are going to learn about the First Aid School’s Program. First we learnt about DRABCD. D stands for Danger. We learnt about safety and saw lots of pictures, one with the microwave still going on, which is very dangerous, so I hope you don’t do this. Another one, was of a lady lying on the floor in the bathroom with a hairdryer and water next to it. So I hope you stay safe with your family and try not to get into much trouble, and always make sure you know how to call the ambulance or the police. By Viniz

Today at school we had some people from St. John’s visit us, to teach us about first aid. All classes learnt different things. Grade 3/4 learnt about DRSABCD and how to protect ourselves. The D stands for danger, so first we learnt about that. Natalie showed us a document for the danger part, there was a picture and we had to find the dangerous things in the kitchen. After that, we had to spot the dangerous things in the classroom, such as pins in the wall. Next we learnt the recovery position for when a person is laying on the floor and we had to act out what to do. Then we finished the session. By Great

On the 3rd of August 2017, St. John’s First Aid came to Spring Parks Primary School. There was a lady called Natalie, who was teaching our class about first aid. When Natalie came she brought a mannequin called Ron. Ron was something St. John’s First Aid use for practicing on in real emergencies. When Natalie was teaching us, she also mentioned the three things you should say on the phone when you ring 000, your address, what service you need, and what the problem is. By Roman
