Cranston native and Cranston West alum, Marissa Cas-telli is competing at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. She is competing with Simon Shnapir, who is from nearby Mas-sachusetts, in pairs figure skating. Castelli and Shnapir are two time reigning United States figure skating pairs champions which earned them a spot on the United States team this year to travel to Sochi. On February 9, Castelli, Shnapir, and the other members

of the United States figure skating team won the bronze medal in the inaugural Olympic Figure Skating Team Event with 60 points. Canada finished one spot ahead in second with 65 points while Russia won the gold medal with 75 points. “It’s a once-in-lifetime opportunity to skate in the first-ever team event. We went out there and helped the team the best we could,” said Castelli on her Olympic experience.
