![Page 11: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Construction Sites
“Transient” short duration construction work (<1 week) at one or several
sites (e.g. emergency works, small-scale maintenance at
fixed premises)
AND

What does this mean in reality?
Unacceptable: Dirty and no hot water
![Page 26: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
What does this mean in reality?
• Unacceptable: sink too small to wash forearms in.
![Page 27: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
Completely unacceptable washing facilities

Unacceptable toilets
![Page 29: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
Almost there!
• If this mess room had been kept clean and tidy (and had a means to warm food) then this would have been OK.
![Page 30: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)

![Page 38: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/38.jpg)

• “If I had to pay for welfare I wouldn’t be able to make a living”
• “We’re in the middle of nowhere, it can’t be done”
![Page 40: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/40.jpg)
Solutions: Transient Sites

![Page 41: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/41.jpg)
Solutions: Transient Sites
• Can existing welfare be used?
Consider:
• Existing facilities in construction area (refurb)
• Local Businesses (shops, restaurants, pubs – by prior agreement)
• Public Toilets (as a last resort)
BUT
• Same standards as fixed sites
• No charge to workers to use facilities
![Page 42: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/42.jpg)
Solutions: Transient Sites
• Can portable welfare be used?
![Page 43: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/43.jpg)
Solutions: Transient Sites
• Can portable welfare be used?
Consider: • Self-contained welfare units (towed trailers)
• Adapted vehicles (toilet, washing, rest, changing facilities)
• ‘Rough n ready’ washing facilities until decent welfare available (esp. if using cement products)
![Page 44: Welfare Facilities & Construction Work (CDM 2007)](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022062803/56649b43550346318e8b6878/html5/thumbnails/44.jpg)
