Welcome Year 7

P & C Meeting 13th March 7pm Yr 12 Formal Meeting to be held at 6pm.

Principals Report Welcome to the 2014 Wee Waa High Newsletter. I hope that people were able to spend time with family and friends and enjoy the holiday over the Christmas and New Year period. A warm welcome to all staff and students and es-pecially all our new Year 7 students and all stu-dents from across the other Years. Tayla Gilmore also has an exciting year ahead with her cricket and at present she is involved in the Combined High Schools cricket training. Wee Waa High School Swimming Carnival Monday 10th saw hot conditions for Wee Waa High School’s annual swimming carnival. The carnival in general was a resounding success with healthy competition and wonderful support from the parents and friends of the school, with new energy coming from the daytime atmosphere, some new novelty events which had everyone involved and spirited support from all the competitors involved.

After some spirited competition Namoi (1323) took out the carnival over Merah (1194), however this margin does not represent the level of competition and effort between the two houses.

I would like to give a special mention to Izabela Gligorevic, Tayla Gilmore and Teagan Conomos on their dedication and sportsmanship on the day. Their acts and attitude over the course of the carnival embody sportsmanship and demonstrated the class that Wee Waa students can have.

Overall 2 records were broken on the day; Georgia Dickinson (100m Freestyle) and David Gligorevic (100m Freestyle).

And after intense competition across all of the years, the age champions are as follows;

Boys Girls

13 Years Harry Pattinson Olivia Gligorevic

14 Years Jordan Morrison Amelia Cruickshank

15 Years Kyle Trindall Abby Downes

16 Years David Gligorevic Eden Booby

17+ Years Sam Sadler Izabela Gligorevic

I would personally like to thank all the students, staff and parents for their support of this event and without you it would not be the success it is.

Mr Legge

Agriculture Roundup

Its been a busy first two weeks for Agriculture students. Yr 7/8 Tech are studying Vegetable production for their ag rotation. Students planted a variety of vegetable seedlings today, including lettuce, capsicum, beetroot as well as herbs. The students will be designing a vegetable garden for their portfolio of work for the Ag unit and will be investigating recipes to use the vegies they are growing so parents can look forward to tasting their home grown produce. We are planning to sell excess to parents and friends of the school to help with fundraising to improve the ag farm so keep an eye out for notices when our gardens are ready for harvest!

Yr 7/8 have also enjoyed helping Mrs Gett roundup the sheep at the end of the day and lock them away for the evenings.

Yr 9/10 are also involved In the Vegetable production enterprise and have spent practical lessons this week getting the beds ready for planting, incorporating sheep manure as fertiliser into the plots for the vegetable seedlings to be planted into when they are ready. Yr 9/10 are studying inputs and outputs of agricultural enterprises before going onto beef production in week 4.

We are looking into getting the fences and cattle yards repaired so will be calling out for help for a working bee in the near future. Anyone in Yr 9/10/11 interested in developing a show team please express interest to Mrs Gett.

Yr 11/12 are investigating the history of Agriculture in our area and will be visiting the Wee Waa Museum next week. Yr 11/12 Agriculture will also be attending a cotton industry workshop’ Field to Fabric.” This will be a great experience for our future Plant production study looking at cotton. Please return permission notes before Monday.

It is a requirement of the school that all students are required to wear leather, covered in shoes for Agriculture- as well as for metal/wood work. Students will not be permitted to participate in practical lessons without leather footwear as it is a safety requirement. Canvas shoes offer no protection when using garden tools, machinery or working with livestock. Students have the option of leaving their work boots here for practicals, wearing them to a school for the prac lessons or bringing them along. Students do not have the option of not wearing leather shoes for prac. No shoes = no prac. It is also a good idea to bring along a hat, sunscreen and waterbottle as its still pretty hot down there on the farm.

Wee Waa High School Issue 1,February 17th, 2014

Welcome back to all the students at Wee Waa High School.

We have been extremely busy in the Careers Department organising the TAFE courses for students.

Around 30 students are attending TAFE and studying Automotive Services, Children’s Services and Beauty Therapy. Two students are studying Hairdressing and Construction at

Tamworth TAFE and an additional 15 students are studying various courses at school online or through Video Conferencing. These course include Business Services, Animal Care, Health Services Nursing, Property and Real Estate

and Education Support. We also have 11 students undertaking school-based traineeships and apprenticeships with the possibility of a few more students being signed up

shortly. Unfortunately, we have been informed that all students travelling to Narrabri TAFE will be required to pay $14 per day regardless of whether they have a bus pass or not. I have informed the bus company that the school will pay this for the students for the remainder of term 1, and during this time we will endeavour to find some funding to at least subsidise the students. We will keep you informed of our progress in this matter.

!!! IMPORTANT!!!

INFORMATION ON THE ADMINISTRATION OF MEDICATION TO STUDENTS

Following the Department of Education Guidelines, staff at Wee Waa High School will not be able to administer any medication to students. If students are using prescribed medication, they can keep it in a locked safe in Mrs Widauer’s room, however, they will need to come to her office at the appropriate time and administer the prescribed medication themselves.

Of course, we will still assist in the administration of emergency medication such as Ventolin in the case of an asthma attack or an EpiPen should it be required. All students who have asthma are reminded that they are required to keep Ventolin and other asthma medication they require in their bags. Additionally, students that have been diagnosed as having a severe allergic reaction and are required to carry an EpiPen, must ensure they carry the EpiPen with them at all times and provide the school with an action plan from their doctor.

We can no longer administer any pain medication such as Panadol to students. If your child gets frequent headaches or requires pain medication for any reason, we suggest that they keep a few tablets in their school bag to administer to themselves should it be required. We also suggest that in this hot weather, students drink plenty of water and keep themselves well hydrated.

If any parents have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact

Mrs Widauer or the Principal, Mr Schneider - 67954477.
