MISSIONS NEWS Our Mission Board sent out an e-mail to check on our Missionaries

status concerning the effects of the Corona virus. As of this week,

no one has reported contracting it and all are in isolation to some

degree. Steve and Donna Niles are in Vestal, NY until they can re-

turn to France. Please continue to pray for their health and safety

and for God to be exalted daily all over the earth! For additional

updates, see the link provided on our YBC web page entitled

‘MISSIONS”

Chris & Darlene Clark PNG-JAARS-Report their January VBS brought

in 400 children with close to 90 praying to receive Christ! Please

pray especially for Bryan Waso, a native teacher, working to bring

peace after several years of intense fighting against sorcery in the

villages. He is working to establish new Christian by-laws! And

praise for son Nathan...he hit his head while playing basketball and

sustained a concussion. Praise God he was able to return for the

final game of the season, which they won! God taught him many

valuable life lessons through this experience. Please continue to

pray for everyone while we walk through the limitations placed on

our work due to the virus, and for God’s protection over PNG and

for communication amongst peoples in remote villages.

Bill & Priscilla Stothers—Dominican Republic

Using God’s Word from I Cor. 4:6-7, Stothers share how our lives

are just empty jars waiting to be filled with God, receiving what we

were created to hold, the very life of God. He is our Treasure to be

shared with others. Praise for the annual youth Mission confer-

ence. 125 young adults from 22 churches attended. We also took

2 teams to minister near the Dominican/Haitian border and the

sugarcane communities. Please pray for Cuba and the network

established with the baseball teams. We have joined with a team

of trainers with an organization called Two Becoming One, to help

with the healing of Christian leaders’ marriages and to reach hurt-

ing couples in churches there. Pray for protection from evil and

that God will heal marriages and families through these leaders.

Please continue to pray for the transition from Bill to Miguel as DR

Baseball Chapel Ministry.

FORSAKEN FOR OUR SAKE

He took Peter and James and John, and he became anguished and dis-

tressed. He told them, “My soul is crushed with grief to the point of

death. Stay here and watch with me.” Matt. 26:37

Does having a friend nearby make pain more bearable? Re-

searchers at the University of Virginia conducted a fascinating

study to answer that question. They wanted to see how the

brain reacted to the prospect of pain, and whether it behaved

differently if a person faced the threat of pain alone, holding a

stranger’s hand or holding the hand of a close friend. Research-

ers ran the test on dozens of pairs, and found consistent results.

When a person was alone or holding a stranger’s hand while an-

ticipating a shock, the regions of the brain that process danger lit

up. But when holding the hand of a trusted person, the brain

relaxed. The comfort of a friend’s presence made the pain seem

more bearable.

Jesus needed comfort as He prayed in the Garden of Geth-

samane. He knew what He was about to face: betrayal, arrest,

and death. He asked His closest friends to stay and pray with

Him, telling them that His soul was “crushed with grief”. But Pe-

ter, James and John kept falling asleep. Jesus faced the agony of

the garden without the comfort of a hand to hold. But because

he bore that pain, we can be confident that God will never leave

or forsake us. Jesus suffered so that we will never have to expe-

rience separation from the love of God. His companionship

makes anything we endure more bearable. Because of God’s

love, we are never truly alone.

God said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.”

WITH DEEPEST SYMPATHY...

We are saddened to announce the sudden

passing of our friend and YBC member Stewart

Baker. He passed away suddenly while

mowing his lawn at his home in Texas. Linda

is hoping to have a Memorial Service here in

Lyndonville June 27 if the gathering bans

are lifted. We will post the time.

GREETINGS FROM PASTOR LYELL AND CALLIE

“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep; for thou, LORD,

only makest me dwell in safety.” (Psalm 4:8, KJV)

In my morning devotions, I was reading from the 4th Psalm,

and came across the verse above. How exceedingly true this is!

What a blessing it is to know that we are in God’s care during the

current virus threat around the world. How easy it is to shrink

back in fear and anxiety when everyone is so uncertain, and so

much is changing all around us! Allow me to share two Bible

verses that can also help during this time: “For God hath not giv-

en us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound

mind” (2 Tim. 1:7), and this, “Casting all your care upon him; for

he careth for you” (1 Peter 5:7). I find that these verses are very

helpful during this pandemic.

I have found it quite an adjustment recently preaching to

empty pews on Saturday mornings, not Sunday mornings. God’s

grace is sufficient! Many thanks to Bill Wilson and Jim Knapp,

who have handled all the computer work and videotaping. He

gives me strength to carry on. He gives me joy in the midst of

sadness. He gives me peace in the midst of turbulence. He gives

me guidance in the midst of perplexity. I am so thankful for all

of you, our church family at YBC. Thank you for listening to the

messages on our church web page as well as by DVD. I hope

they have been helpful and encouraging. Thank you for your

prayer support. It all means more than you will ever know.

In the midst of all the change and adjustment, God’s truth remains the same. At this Easter season, Jesus is alive and well, and building His Church! Dear believers, be encouraged in the

Lord our God. Our God reigns! Jesus is coming again! This storm shall pass, and we shall safely reach that heavenly haven! PTL! It will prove to be an added adjustment to preach with peo-

ple in the pews again! May it come soon! Love all of you!
