Welcome
Trumpington Meadows has been planned as a flourishing new community that is appealing, distinctive and sustainable – with a wide ranging selection of high quality homes, as well as over 140 acres of riverside country park, children’s play areas, allotments, and a new primary school, and adjacent to a Waitrose supermarket.

Vision for the Local Centre
Located within the ‘Urban Quarter’ of Trumpington Meadows, the new ‘Local Centre’ area will provide retail units, 40 new 1 and 2 bedroom apartments and a large public square.
Secure cycle parking to serve the residential units will be provided, as well as cycle parking within the square for general use. The public square will be situated outside the retail units and the school, to provide a central focal point for the development.

Key benefits
Artist’s impression
Highways & ParkingThe spine road will run through the square, but will be designed to ensure that it does not dominate the area. The public square will consider the relationship to the adjoining Primary School, and will be maintained by a private management company. The public square will enforce parking restrictions, while still providing a high quality design.
Swept path analysis will be undertaken, including the tracking of refuse vehicles, standard design vehicles for parking areas, and buses.
DrainageSurface water runoff willl be controlled within the Local Centre so that flows to the proposed sewer connections are no more than the 1 in 30 year event flow rates.
Water storage will be provided to cope with a 1 in 100 year event, with an additional allowance for climate change. This will be achieved using sustainable drainage techniques, or by attenuation within the proposed sewer network. The sewers will be offered to Anglian Water for adoption.
The proposals include 40 new 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. These will include 40% affordable units, which will be provided on a tenure blind basis. Parking is provided at the back of the units on a one for one basis.

LandscapeThe ‘Local Centre’, as one of the keyareas in Trumpington Meadows, should promote distinctiveness in character. Therefore the landscape aims to create a strong sense of place and legible layout for the public square, where the new comunnity will meet and interact.
A strong paving pattern spanning from building edge to
building edge will contribute to a shared surface with ‘no road’ visual aspect. This greatly enhances the
civic quality of the space and contributes to traffic calming, whilst allowing for full vehicular access.
Other landscape elements will follow the paving geometry.

Trees (and associated tree pits), hedges and planting beds, seating
and furniture, and recycling bin units, will be similarly placed within the grid
rhythm to contribute to the unity of the space. All visitors parking bays associated with the main road will
be seamlessly integrated within the overall paving pattern, instead of
visually dominating it.
