President's Message

Hello Rotarians from freezing cold Seminyak.

First man Dave would like to invite partners out on an informal lunch at the Inveresk Tavern for Community

Kitchen, Sunday 24 June at Midday. Tables can’t be reserved so we’ll meet in the bar and grab space as

possible. Oh and yes partners, you can bring your other half along if you like

A big thanks to all our club family that assisted on today’s Launceston Ten. It was great seeing all the pics. And

of course don’t forget the changeover dinner at the Silos.

A big thanks to PP Peter Bushby who is also our Club Protection Officer who straight off the back of our 35th

Anniversary is now embarking on collating compliance registrations for working with children and vulnerable

people. It’s another big task and at first feels frustrating but if your child was hanging out with people you didn’t

know, I’m sure you’d agree you’d want every box ticked.

Your meeting tomorrow will have PP Stephen Blackwood taking care of you in my place together with VP Elect

Naomi as Chair.

On that note, I’m off to the pool. It’s 29 degrees!

Meals on Wheels!!

RCCL Rotarians Vanessa Cahoon and Richard Matson you guys seriously rock, fantastic work!!

Tasmanian Running Festival

All of those involved had a fantastic morning volunteering at the Tasmanian Running Festival in Launceston.

It was absolutely brilliant to watch the enthusiasm of the runners and to see so many people of all ages taking part,

giving it their best and having fun!

To all the runners who took part, you are an absolute inspiration!

Our RCCL volunteers did a range of volunteering from being marshalls on the course, handing out medals and

helping to run the busy bag minding area.

Thank you to everyone at the Tasmanian Running Festival for doing such a great job. We loved being part of today.

Our volunteering at this awesome event reminds us why we love being in Rotary.

Creating My Career - North (Rotary)

There has been a been a request for us to participate in this year’s Northern Creating My Career (CMC) event.

CMC will this year be held at the University of Tasmania’s Inveresk Campus from 9am -2pm Friday 8th June.

We would like to invite your entire club or a single representative to attend.

Some of the FAQ’s

What do we need to do?

13

We ask Rotarians to assist in the movement of students to and from activities. The UTAS Inveresk campus is relatively flat and

minimal stairs so it is normally an easy stroll to a location.

Do we have to present?

No, there are Industry, TasTAFE and University staff for all presentations.

Can I participate in the sessions?

We welcome you to stay and see what is happening but it will be up to individual presenters on the day to invite you to actually

participate.

I can’t do all day. We can work with everyone to fit into the different session times. Please see the link below for session times.

Can I get a coffee?

Yes we will supply free tea, coffee and water throughout the day along with lunch.

How many Rotarians do you need?

We don’t like to limit the number of attendees but we do need a minimum of 20 people on the day.

Below is a link to a registration form for anyone who would like to attend:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSegrizdaU24sT2MCSdrGGptri4M4pTQ7EFU2rhfYzjTXmYj5A/viewform?usp=sf_link

Please feel free to pass on this information and/or my contact details to any Rotarian who might be interested in participating.

If you have any other questions please let me know. I am happy to answer any questions or concerns you or your members might

have.

Kind regards,

Brett Williams

Guest Speaker Report

28th May 2018

Jacinda Armstrong Playgroup Tasmania

Jacinda Armstrong is the CEO of playgroup Tasmania.

This is a voluntary community-based organisation that helps children between the age of 0 to 5 become more

socialised and learn through play.

There are some supported playgroups that have a paid facilitator , this is mainly for lower socio-economic areas.

Playgroup Tasmania receives no funding from the state government but does receive some funding from the federal

government.

Statistics show the children who have attended playgroup have a 50% reduction in in all areas of vulnerability.

Playgroups give families social support and help improve parental skills.

500 families join playgroups each year.

There are 35 affiliated committee playgroups in Tasmania.

Overall interesting talk about an area which most of us would have had some contact with.
