Expectations in Year 1 and 2
HomeworkBoth year bands give homework out on Friday to return on the following Wednesday.Reading every night and noted in the reading log.Maths weeklyLiteracy weekly – could be phonics based, spellings or writing.
Punctuality for start of schoolPupils should be lining up at 8.48am each morning. There is little space at the lines – please encourage your child
to line up independently.
Expectations in Year 1 and 2Behaviour We operate a zone system to indicate levels of expected
behaviour. All pupils start each term in super zone. We talk to the children not in terms of naughty behaviour but of poor choices and how to make better ones!
We expect good manners of all our pupils and the ability to take responsibility for their own actions.
We celebrate kindness, friendship and appropriate behaviour in a variety of ways including; sharing achievements with other teachers, being Star of the Week, getting ‘Dojo’points, stickers and badges, certificates etc.
We hope to have your support in this aspect of school life – if you have any concerns – please come and talk to us.
Expectations in Year 1 and 2P.E Kits Very important part of our curriculum – please ensure your
child has a P.E kit that fits and is clearly marked as theirs! They stay in our classrooms to avoid getting lost! Kits will go home at the end of each term for a wash – and
please check their pumps still fit! Worth mentioning school uniform – please ensure their name
is clearly marked on the label in permanent marker – we have a huge amount of unnamed lost property at the end of each term!
Expectations in Year 1 and 2Out of School Learning Some learning experiences are simply better out of class! We VERY carefully cost our trips – we are aware that in this
economic climate spare money is difficult to find for many families.
We ensure that any trip letters go out as early as possible to enable parents can pay.
We are also very grateful for parent helpers on our trips.
Expectations in Year 1 and 2Open Door Policy We operate an open door policy – you don’t have to wait until a
parent’s evening to voice a concern!
Special Educational Needs If you have concerns – please speak to your teacher or have a
word with Miss Short who is the school co-ordinator for special needs.
Expectations in Year 1 and 2Y2 SATS• Mentioned – not for you to worry – but to keep your diaries
free from holidays! Assessments will start in week commencing 16th May 2016 – we keep them as light hearted and as fun as we can!
Y1 Phonics testing Nationally all Year 1 pupils are tested on their decoding skills
and phonic knowledge. Any Year 2 children who did not pass in Year 1 also have to re-take the test. Pupils will be tested individually by a teacher.
The testing takes place in week commencing 13th June 2016.
Some future dates… Parent’s Evenings – Monday 12th, Tuesday 13th October
and Wednesday 14th October 2015. Year 1 have a job share post – so some appointments may be on Thursday 15th October. We will send out appointment slips nearer to the time.
Harvest Festival – Friday 16th October at 2pm – details will follow nearer to the time.
