Welcome to the ALTERNATIVE PULP AND PAPERWholesale Catalog!

Rooted in our experience over the last decade crafting our flagship POOPOOPAPER Brand products, we're thrilled to now present the first three collections from our new

Alternative Pulp & Paper Co. brand!

Using the same basic and traditional papermaking methods innovated over 2000 years ago, we use post-harvest alternative waste fibers such as coconut bark, corn husks, bamboo, banana stalk,

pineapple husks, mango leaves and others such as pine needles etc. to make beautiful, natural, bleach and chlorine-free paper and stationery products. Our papers use zero wood-pulp from

cut trees, therefore, no trees are harvested to produce our unique assortment of papers. We think that's a good thing!

Conveying messages of sustainability, optimism and celebrating our shared natural treasures, we hope that through our ecologically responsible papers, our artwork and designs, we will always be a part of the solution instead a part of the problem all the while providing livelihoods and

opportunity to our Alternative Pulp & Paper team.

From Farm to Fiber

We collect a wide variety of post-harvest waste from farms and orchards that dot the landscape throughout the lush terrain that is Northern Thailand. The materials we collect are selected based on their fiber quality, strength and length and, specifically, whether we're able to make a pulp

slurry mixture that can be used to produce a durable and long lasting sheet of paper. The process starts with the washing and cleaning of the bulk fibers followed by a lengthy boiling stage where the fibers are reduced to a stringy, cellulose-filled, soup-like solution. This solution is spread thinly and evenly onto mesh screens and dried. Our handmade sheets are sun-dried and our machine-milled papers are steam dried, pressed and rolled. Crafting of our finished

products such as stationery and gift items requires the scoring of the sheets and rolls followed by hand assembly and finishing. All designs and artwork on our products utilize soy-based inks.

Artisan Made and More Than Fair Trade

Our production facility in Thailand recently had a thorough social audit completed according to Social Accountability International SA8000 standards. We rated in the 80th percentile.

We are incredibly proud of this and think that this is important for all our customers to know.

The SA8000 social audit was developed to help ensure that workers of the world are treated according to basic human rights principles. SA stands for social accountability and is run by

Social Accountability International SAI which was founded in 1997. It s a global standard-setting non-profit organization dedicated to improving workplaces and communities and is based on the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Convention on the Rights of The Child and various

International Labor Organization ILO conventions. SA8000 covers the following areas of accountability: Child labor; Forced labor; Workplace safety and health; Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining; Discrimination; Discipline; Working hours; Remuneration; Management systems for Human Resources. as of December 31, 2008, 1,067,703 workers in 66 countries in

67 industrial sectors were employed at 1874 factories, stores and farms certified to SA8000 standards.

SAI has established one of the world s preeminent social standards - SA8000 standard for decent work, a tool for implementing international labor standards - that has improved the lives of over one million workers. The SA8000 standard leverages the power of businesses and consumers to purchase

products made from workplaces that enrich, not denigrate, the livelihoods of people.

Our Commitment to Environment and People

Our paper is tree-free. We re beyond making paper from tree-based pulp. Our products are an excellent example of recycling and sustainability - by taking actual waste and re-purposing it into functional alternative-fiber paper products we re on the leading edge of progressive recycling initiatives.

We have evolved to now print and color over 95 of our products with natural soy-inks and non-toxic and edible food coloring.

We operate a flex-work cottage-based manufacturing production framework in Thailand where many of our crafts people over 95 females have the opportunity to work at home with flexibility to attend to their own seasonal harvesting commitments as well as maintain their family household management responsibilities. Incomes generated often enhances largely agriculture-based family incomes.

We provide employment to many ethnic minorities many of whose parents originate from areas in proximity rife with political conflict and lack of basic freedoms. Many others of our staff otherwise would not otherwise be able to find reliable, meaningful employment in the local market due to local biases, discriminatory practices and restrictions of mobility. We assist with necessary work permits and pay a fair and legal wage with all our employees having social security benefits including a retirement savings and unemployment insurance plan as well as a comprehensive health care package.
