Year 4: Ancient Egyptians Topic
Year 4 are thoroughly enjoying this term’s topic all about life in Ancient Egyptian times. In class, Year 4 are creating a display which shows the evolution of the topic to date. Thus far, we have learnt about:
How did the Egyptians communicate?
Where is Egypt?
What does Egypt’s landscape tell us about what life might have been like?
What are pyramids and what were they used for?
Who were the Pharaohs and why were they important?
How did the Egyptians grow food? (Farming)
How was society organised in ancient Egypt?
Where did the Ancient Egyptians live? (Houses, clothing, jewellery)
The children have also worked hard with their different homework projects, finding out further information about each area of our studies and presenting their findings in numerous ways. For example: creating maps, drawing labelled diagrams, creating models of pyramids, printing pictures and writing facts and paragraphs about areas of interest.
The photographs portray work completed both in class during lessons, and at home for homework. Well done Year 4.
Collaborative Playtime Art Activity
The children have had a wonderful time working collaboratively to create a castle with a farm and out-house from natural materials which they found through foraging around the school field. The children used dried grass, bark chippings, leaves and petals to create their masterpiece.
The Midday Supervisors were most impressed with the children’s idea, teamwork, creativeness and enjoyment in their activity. It has been a focal talking point around our school community. Well done to all involved.

Year 3: CMAT Inter-School Primary Performance Poetry Competition
On Friday 24th May, eight Year 3 students were invited to take
part in the CMAT Inter-School Primary Performance Poetry
competition at The Lantern. All children performed to a fantastic
standard, we were up against some tough competition. One
DFPA group performed especially well, they came 2nd in the
competition against nine other groups. The children and staff
were very proud of their performances and rightly so.
The children showed great dedication with
learning their poems and working as a group
to create some fantastic performances.
Well done all.
EYFS: Caterpillars
Year 1: Tadpoles
Year 1 returned to school on Monday to find tadpoles
in their classroom! They spent some of our morning
observing the tadpoles. They noticed they had long tails
and were breathing in the water. They found out that
this is because tadpoles have gills.
When the tadpoles turn into frogs, which is called
metamorphosis, the frogs lose their gills and need to
breathe air. On Wednesday, the children were amazed
to notice that some of the tadpoles have grown back
legs, and some now have front legs too. The
tadpoles have caused great excitement in Year 1; the
children are very excited to see some frogs very soon.
Last term, Foundation learnt about the story ‘Dear Zoo’ and wrote letters
to the zoo to send them a pet. This week we were delighted, the zoo sent
us something to look after. We have been sent five caterpillars.
The children were very excited and quickly began naming them. Our
caterpillars are called: Rosalie, Utdoo, Pearl, Mrs and Gold.
We are sure you will agree that these names are perfect. Over the next
few weeks we will watch them grow and record what happens to them.
Foundation will become caterpillar experts, so please feel free to ask
them what they have found out. We will let you know how they get on.

Pyjamarama Day
FODA School Disco
Our FODA school disco took place at the end of last term. Thank you to FODA and all helpers. The children had a great time.
The children really enjoyed wearing their pyjamas to school today in order to help raise money for the Booktrust; the UK’s largest children’s reading charity.
Each year, the Booktrust reaches 3.4 million children across the UK with books, resources and support to help develop a love of reading.
The amount raised will be disclosed during next week’s newsletter. Well done everyone.

All4Sports Breakfast Club Bookings
Could we politely remind parents that before attendance at All4Sports Breakfast Club at Downham Feoffees Primary Academy, a booking should be made via: https://all4sports.magicbooking.co.uk/Account/Login Bookings can be made 7 days a week 24 hours a day. In the last two weeks of the last half term we had 18 children attend who were not booked on. This makes it difficult to plan for the purchase of food etc. in advance if we are not aware of numbers attending on the day. Not booking on also means that a payment is not added to your account on the day of attendance but a week later when we manually input late bookings. If you are unable to make the booking online for whatever reason, please email us at [email protected] in order that we can make the booking for you. All accounts should now be made up to date with payments made for any sessions attended in the last half term. We appreciate your support in this matter. Thank you, Mrs Sam Cross All4Sports Customer Liaison Manager
