Narration: In this example the MDD has been triggered at the corner of Market and Main St.

As a part of the program, a sampling request has been randomly sent to MDDs. The red radius featured in the image represents the Trigger/Alert Boundary. Once you enter the trigger/alert boundary associated with a sampling request, the MDD will produce an alert in the form of a chime, vibration, and voice prompt, notifying the you that you have a Work Order to process.

When you arrive at the delivery point (1234 Main Street) in your line of travel, you will stop and complete the Work Order. Never deviate from or back track to complete a Work Order.

Safety First Note: If you are notified of a sampling request while your vehicle is in motion, please wait until fully stopped at the delivery point before initiating the Work Order.

Please note, you are required to scan mailpieces while on the Sampling Screen. You should scan no more than the required sampling amount. In the example, the carrier is instructed to Sample 3 Mailpieces. Once the required number of pieces have been scanned, the screen will display 3 Scanned.

All delivery personnel are required to scan a mix of periodicals, flats, and letters with IBI, IMb, and FICS barcodes. If a mailpiece has multiple barcodes, scan only one barcode per mailpiece. Scan flats before letters and other mailpieces.

Directly scan barcodes while on the Sampling Screen by pressing the green SCAN button. The MDD screen will display the number of scans completed.

You should scan a variety of mail pieces –Periodicals, Flats and Letters

Also, there are occasions when you may exit the trigger/alert boundary after postponing the Work Order and then re‐enter the same boundary later. If this occurs, your MDD will trigger another alert upon reentry; thus, bringing up the Work Order again.
