Bringing back Rooflines was one of the goals of your 2016 President Chad Collins, and while he is now luxuriating in his new role as Past President, this new in-house produced Rooflines 3.0 is his final contri-bution to the Association. In this issue we’ll recap 2016 and give you a snapshot of what to expect in 2017 and it’s all just in time to celebrate our 55th Anniversary.

The 2017 Builder Expo at the Rickhouse in downtown Durham was a great event! Over 70 builders registered for the event with 27 associate member vendors in at-tendance. This year we had fun with our theme: Craft Brew & Barbeque! tional Green Building Standard. In addition,

we hold the largest Green Home Tour in the

nation. Looking back, we have made our

mark in this industry and my hope is that

2017 will be our best year yet. Please get

involved, join a committee, attend a member-

ship meeting, maybe even come to our annual

scholarship auction, so that you can experi-

ence what makes our HBA different, what

makes it the "cool" HBA. I look forward to

meeting you!

In the paraphrased words of Peyton Manning

during the open ceremonies of IBS2017, "You are

only as good as your team". You may be good, or

even the best at what you do, but if one of your

teammates isn't at the other end of the field ready

to catch your pass, chances are you will lose. In

life, in business, in all that we do our desire is to

win, to be the best. My desire as HBA President

this year is to continue the legacy of the

HBADOC as not only being the "cool" HBA, but

being the best HBA in supporting all its members

and working as a team. Frank Weisner said to my

lovely wife, at our HBA Officer Installation/

Christmas party, "I choose to join this HBA be-

cause we are more than numbers here, we are

FAMILY!" As a family, my goal is to continue to

build bridges with our members and new busi-

nesses, to share and celebrate our individual suc-

cesses, and apply what we learn from each oth-

er. I believe this will allow our HBA to thrive and

pull out a "win" in 2017.

What better motivation for a great year ahead,

than a look back at some of the highlights of the

past 55 years. Yes...this is our 55th Anniver-

sary!! The HBADOC was one of the first to par-

ticipate in the Habitat for Humanity Builder Blitz,

building 5 homes for 5 deserving families. We

have raised and awarded over $200,000 in schol-

arships through our HBADOC Foundation. We

have one of the largest and most active green

councils in the nation, newly named "High Perfor-

mance Building Council of the Triangle". You may

not know that the founding GHBT members de-

Hundreds of people visited 63 homes priced from

$180K to over $1.6 million, including 20 green

certified homes on the Parade of Homes tour in

October. The Builder-Realtor kick off party was

at Forest Ridge in Hillsborough. While the first

weekend was greeted by Hurricane Matthew,

some folks still braved the elements and traffic on

weekends 2 and 3 more than made up for it. The

event also included two REALTOR Limo Tours –

one in Durham/Orange and one in Chatham –

and both included a full limo of agents ready to

tour beautiful Parade homes. Over 200 people

attended the Awards Gala event at The Carolina

Inn in Chapel Hill.

2017 New Neighborhood Expo event. The 2017 New Neighborhood Expo

will take place March 21 at The Cotton

Room.

Our annual trade show for REALTORS is always a

fun event and 2016 was no exception. Over 200

agents attended and networked with 30+ Builder,

Developer, and Associate vendors at the beautiful

Cotton Room in downtown Durham. Not only did

they enjoy a delicious lunch, catered by Triangle

Catering, they also had opportunities to win great

door prizes and get 5 minute chair massages.

hand out 10 scholarships this spring of 2017. If
