Welcome to the ITALY Branch Office of JEHOVAH’S WITNESSES It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Italy branch office of Jehovah’sWitnesses. We hope that your visit will be a pleasant one. Our complex of buildings is called Bethel, meaning “House of God.” This Biblical name is fitting, for the more than 350 men and women who serve here are ordained ministers who are dedicated to Jehovah God and who devote themselves full-time to supporting the worldwide work of Kingdom preaching. In some 236 lands, there are over 7,000,000 of Jehovah’s Witnesses, who are carrying out the commission Jesus gave his followers—to preach the good news of God’s Kingdom. (Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20) To organize this work, there are approximately 100 branch offices worldwide—all serving under the direction of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses. The branch office in Rome coordinates the activities of more than 240,000 of Jehovah’sWitnesses in Italy and in the Republic of San Marino. Introduction ABRIEF HISTORY. From the second decade of the 20th century until 1945, the activities of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Italy were directed by the Switzerland branch office. However, in order to provide better support to the Witnesses in Italy, an office was opened in the town of Pinerolo, nearTurin, in the early 1920’s. In 1932 an office was also opened in Milan. After functioning for just a few months, however, it was closed by the Fascist authorities. In 1946, shortly after the second world war, a small Bethel family was formed in a house onVia Vegezio in Milan. Later, the decision was made to move the Bethel family to Rome so that the branch office would be centrally located. In September 1948, a three-story house was acquired onVia Monte Maloia. In time, this branch office proved insufficient for the needs of the growing number of Witnesses in Italy. Hence, land was purchased on the northeastern outskirts of Rome. Work began on a new three-story building, which was completed in 1972. This was the first building of the present complex located at Via della Bufalotta 1281. From 1980 onward, several buildings were added to accommodate a printery, offices, living quarters, and other necessary facilities. Since 1985 several houses located in the nearby area have also been acquired. W e sincerely hope that your visit to Bethel has been a re- warding one. No doubt it has helped you to be- come better acquainted with the work that Je- hovah’s Witnesses are doing to aid people who are searching for a better future through God’s Kingdom. We hope that you will continue to learn more about our loving Crea- tor and to live by his righteous standards. VISITING HOURS. Visitors are welcome to take a guided tour of our facilities.
