● GPA as an indicator: Grade 10 final GPA 2.75.
● University Destination: specific requirements, country etc.
Two and half weeks in...
● Students should now be settled into chosen courses.
● Course changes are very difficult and not always possible.
● There are strict rules in terms of contact hours which makes many changes impossible.
Courses are for two years
By signing up for an IB course keep in mind they are for two years. This implies that:
1. Students will sit the final IB external exam and complete all appropriate course work.
2. IB Examination fees will be paid by the deadline in November of Grade 12.
Special Case - Language BLanguage B is a second language. If a student answers yes to any of the below, they may not qualify for a specific language B:
1. They speak that language at home2. They have had formal education in that language (school
or language center)3. They can already read and write in the language
Students must ensure that they are appropriately placed, Literature A SL - Self-Taught could be an option.
Special Case - Mathematics● Traditionally the most common course change involves a Math
course.
● Some changes are easier than others.
● Those that chose Math HL have to be sure because if a student wishes to drop HL, it must be replaced by another HL and that is not always possible. This applies to all HL subjects.
● Some dates are set by the Math Department regarding changes and this has been shared with students.
Assessment● All courses have both internally and externally assessed
components.● IA is marked in school and moderated externally by the IB.● We also have to provide predicted grades three times
throughout the course of the IB.
○ End of grade 11 - for students and parents.○ Semester 1 Grade 12 - most commonly for university
applications.○ Semester 2 - Official predicted grade for the IB.
