FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK… Dear Parishioners and Friends of St. Francis de Sales Parish, Where did the summer go? Believe it or not, the school year is just around the corner! The teachers and staff have been working hard to prepare for another school year at St. Francis de Sales Parish School. This Thursday, Sept. 1, classes begin for all new and returning students. How blessed we are to have a parish school! I am sure you will agree with me that Saint Francis de Sales is a special place – our school provides an excellent education in an environment of faith. Our children learn reading, writing, math and technology, and grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith. Here they develop a moral compass based on Gospel values. Our school both prepares our children to succeed in life, and provides them with the faith background needed to grow in holiness. As the school year begins, we ask a blessing for all of our children, those in our parish school and those in the public schools. May God protect them and help them to grow in the ways of faith. May their classes and learning activities help them to discover their own God given talents and gifts. May their parents and teachers provide them with a solid moral foundation and lead them by example. Amen! God’s Blessings, Fr.

PARISH LIBRARY NEWS My Battle Against Hitler – Faith, Truth, and Defiance in the Shadow of the Third Reich

Dietrich von Hildebrand was a German Catholic thinker and teacher who devoted the full force of his intellect to breaking the deadly spell of Nazism that ensnared so many of his beloved countrymen.

In My Battle Against Hitler, covering the years from 1921 to 1938, von Hildebrand tells of the scorn and ridicule he endured for sounding the alarm when many still viewed Hitler as a positive and inevitable force. He expresses the sorrow of having to leave behind his home in Germany to conduct his fight against the Nazis from Austria. He recounts how he defiantly challenged Nazism in the public square and in the midst of all the danger he faced, he conveys his unwavering trust in God, even during his harrowing escape from Vienna and his desperate flight across Europe, with the Nazis always just one step behind.

His public statements led the Nazis to blacklist him already in 1921, long before the horrors of the Third Reich. His battle would culminate in the countless articles he published in Vienna, a selection of which are featured in this volume. Refuting the Attack on Mary - Have you been grilled for answers about why Catholics believe that Mary remained a virgin, or that she was immaculately conceived, or assumed into heaven? Have you wanted to provide clear and full answers to questions like this but found yourself unable to do so? This book is remarkably concise and powerful in its explanations of how to defend the truth of Catholic teaching whenever you are called upon to refute the attack on Mary.
