Overview of Pre-Registration Courses
• All pre-registration nursing/ODP programmes are three years long. Paramedic Diploma 2 years/Top up Degree available
• Courses have a timetable of 45 weeks per year - annual leave is predetermined.
• All courses comprise of aprox 50% theory and 50% practice.• ODP 40% theory 60% practice
• Students expected to attend university and placement areas for a 37.5 hour week.
• Experience all shift patterns.
• It is important that they understand this and are committed to the longer than normal terms.

Practice PlacementsCentral to the programme is the experience students gain working with professionals in a variety of settings, including:• Acute hospitals • Community settings • Clinics • Walk-in-centres• GP surgeries • Nursing homes • Nurseries
Hub and spoke placements to give maximum opportunity to experience a variety of care delivery.

International Practice Placements
• Students are given the opportunity to experience international health care at the end of 2nd
year.
• They can request the area they want to work in.
• Previous Edge Hill University students have used this time to gain work experience in Africa, Australia, America, New Zealand, China and Europe.
• The Faculty has links with China, Finland, South Africa, Rwanda, Germany.

Entry Requirements for Pre-Registration Programmes
• No upper age limit
• Minimum of three years settled residency status within the UK
• Recent study in the last three - five years
• Occupational health and DBS clearances are mandatory

5 GCSEs at grade C or above to include Mathematics and English Languageplus
112 UCAS tariff points overall, including two GCE A levels grades BB (relevant naturaland applied science subjects preferred but not essential)orBTEC Extended Diploma (QCF) grades DMM; BTEC National (NQF) grades DMM; BTEC Diploma (QCF) grades D*D*
orQAA Access to HE Diploma (Nursing and/or Midwifery, Allied Health Professionals) to include 45 level 3 credits 15 at Distinction, 30 at merit.
• Candidates without traditional qualifications must also meet the criteria for Maths and English at GCSE level grade C or above, or level 2 equivalency

Entry Requirements - Qualifications
Midwifery Degree:5 GCSEs at grade C or above to include Mathematics, English Language and a science (preferably Biology) or equivalency
plus128 UCAS tariff points overall, from three GCE A levels at ABB including one relevant subject (Biology, Human Biology, Psychology, Health and Social Care, or Sociology)
orBTEC Extended Diploma (QCF); DDM (to include Biology/Human Biology)
orQAA Access to HE Diploma (Nursing and/or Midwifery, Allied Health Professionals); to include 45 credits at level 3 (must include Biology /Human Biology at level 3). Of the 45 credits at level 3, 30 credits must be at Distinction, the remaining 15 credits at Merit.

Application
Points to remember on the application form:
• All information on the form is confidential.
• Explain any breaks in employment or full-time education.
• Declare any known learning need - there is a lot of support available to assist with studies if we know about their learning needs.
• Declare any convictions - each declaration is considered individually and not all convictions are prohibitive to these programmes.
• Make sure the people nominated as referees are willing to supply a reference.

All pre registration programmes are competitive, especially children’s nursing, midwifery and paramedic practice.
Application forms can be strengthened by:
- finding out more about the profession - undertake some paid/voluntary work - be clear about which area they want to
study and WHY
Take time completing the personal statement.

Interviews• All universities interview for pre registration programmes.
• Need to bring a birth certificate and photographic evidence, i.e., Passport/Drivers Licence and original academic certificates.
• Interviews include a written and maths test.
• Interview panels consist of academics, practitioners, service users and/or carers.
• Expect to be asked questions about the application form, in particular their personal statement and their knowledge about the course/profession applied for.

Exit Qualifications
Successful completion of a pre-registration programmes will give two qualifications:
• A higher education honours degree
• A professional qualification allowing students to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a qualified Nurse/Midwife. Or the HCPC as an ODP or Paramedic.
