MS Friday Night Lent Series. All MS youth are invited to join us during Lent for 3 Fridays in March. We’ll be using Encounter: Experiencing God in the Everyday, a Bible study for middle-school-age youth. Through fun & engaging video and discussion sessions, your children will experience God as a loving father with a great plan for them. They will also learn about the Biblical roots of the Sacraments and the Mass. This is a great way for them to draw nearer to God during the Lenten season! We’ll have cheese pizzas and social time as well! Join us at Sts. P&P in the youth room Friday, Feb. 16, March 2 & March 9 from 7-9pm.

Source + Summit Retreat. Source + Summit 2018 is March 16-18 at Memorial High School. This is for youth ages 13-24. Cost is $45. Bus transportation provided. Deadline to turn in forms & payment is Wed., Feb. 28th. Adult chaperones will be needed for this event.

Summer Conferences – Notre Dame Vision & One Bread, One Cup Applications are due MARCH 7! Notre Dame Vision and St. Meinrad’s One Bread, One Cup are great 5-day summer conferences that we offer to high school youth. Notre Dame Vision is a leadership conference that helps develop the faith and gifts of high school youth to imitate the lives of Jesus Christ and the Saints in our current culture. One Bread, One Cup focuses more on developing the youth’s gifts to serve in the liturgy at Mass and helps them know that they ARE part of the Church and gives them ownership and purpose in the Body of Christ! Both conferences offer multiple weeks during the summer to choose from. We will pick a week that fits best for the majority of those interested. Cost for ND Vision is $100. Cost for OBOC is $550. (*We receive OSV subsidies for ND Vision which keeps cost so low. There may be money available to lower the cost of OBOC.)

Summer Mission Trip to Appalachia, KY for HS Youth. Come live out the Gospel in a very real way! Share your time, talent and open your heart to people in need. This year we will return to St. Vincent Mission in David, KY in the heart of Appalachia. Types of work have included demolition, drywall, painting, building wheel chair ramps, yard work, replacing floors & porches. The dates for the mission are July 15-20. We have reserved 20 spots. We need a few skilled adult chaperones. Reservations for this trip are first come, first serve!! Cost for each youth is $125 for the trip. We will have a fundraiser to help with deferring the cost. Trip will include a day of mountain fun on the way home!

Mass with Bishop Siegel. Bishop Siegel is going to be visiting one parish in each deanery to offer Mass for the parishioners. For our deanery, this Mass will be held at Sts. Peter & Paul Church, Haubstadt on Tuesday, February 27 at 6:30 p.m. with a reception to follow in the school cafeteria. This Mass is open to all parishioners of our deanery.

Second Sunday of Lent

The early Church Fathers saw the Transfiguration as the revelation of Jesus as divine and as a fulfillment of God's kingdom here on earth. Imagine what Peter, James, and John must have thought after seeing such a demonstration of God's power. It is in direct experiences with God, like this one, that we come to see the truth about Jesus.

Events like the Transfiguration don't happen every day, you say? On the contrary, they happen EVERY DAY! The sacraments are direct, purposeful experiences with God that occur every day in churches everywhere. In the Eucharist, we are able to witness the real Jesus in our midst. One could say that appearing to us in the form of bread and wine is even more miraculous than what the three apostles saw that day.

Yet what do we think when encountering the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist? Lent is a great time to attend daily Masses, spend time in Eucharistic adoration, or prepare more fully for Sunday Mass by reading the Scripture in advance or quieting our hearts and minds with prayer. Do not let this time pass without noticing him. In the Eucharist, he is right in front of you.

Holy Cross Chicken Dinner. All-you-can-eat Family Style Chicken Dinner on Sunday, March 4 from 10:45 - 1:00 p.m. at Holy Cross Cafeteria. Adults $9.50 and children $4.50. Carry-outs available!

GriefShare is a grief recovery support group where you can find help and healing for the hurt of losing a loved one. Sessions begin March 6 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and continue for 13 weeks (not meeting March 27) at Good Shepherd Parish. Sessions will be held in Room 109 in the School. Any questions, contact Sue Kroupa at 812-449-3740 or [email protected]
