Welcome to the Africa Scout Conference and Youth Forum in Zimbawe

Dear Scouts around the world,

The “Hungwe” (African fish eagle in Shona language) is a large species of eagle found throughout sub-Saharan Africa wherever large bodies of open water with an abundant food supply occur. The bird is the national bird of Zimbabwe and appears on the Zimbabwean flag. This bird of prey also figures in the coat of arms of Namibia, Zambia, and South Sudan, and the Zambian flag. It is strong and powerful. Its distinctive cry is, for many, evocative of the spirit or essence of Africa. What better name to call this bulletin than “Hungwe”?

Just as the Hungwe cries, this bulletin will serve to call out for you important information that you will need as you prepare to travel to Zimbabwe for the 17th Africa Scout Conference and the 8th Africa Scout Youth Forum.

The Africa Scout Conference is the governing organ of the Africa Scout Region. It takes place every three years and formulates the general policy of the region through resolutions. It elects members of the Africa Scout Committee – the executive organ of the Africa Scout Region.

Each member National Scout Organization is entitled to send to the Africa Scout Conference up to six delegates and a number of observers to be determined in agreement with the organizing committee.

The Africa Scout Youth Forum takes place every three years in conjunction with the Africa Scout Conference. The event provides an opportunity for youth members of Scouting in Africa to discuss different issues and many participants are also delegates at the Africa Scout Conference. The aim of the Youth Forum is to provide a learning platform and to increase youth participation in decision-making processes at regional level.

The 8th Africa Scout Youth Forum and the 17th Africa Scout Conference will take place from 4th to 6th September 2018 and from 7th to 10th September 2018 respectively in Harare, Zimbabwe. The joint theme for the two events is “Africa Scouting: Building the Foundation for Sustainable Development.” The theme highlights the need for a move towards sustainability of Scouting as well our collective efforts towards the realization of the 2030 United Nations Agenda for Sustainable Development in Africa.

require a Visa. No action required, you will be granted easy entry at any border post.

• Category C: Countries whose nationals are required to apply for and obtain a Zimbabwe Visa prior to travelling.

You can apply through a Zimbabwe High Commission or Embassy in your home or neighbouring country or an easier way is to apply online.

For more details on the Zimbabwe Visa Regime or to make an application online, visit www.evisa.gov.zw/#/VisaRegime

buy one)• Sufficient funds to cover your stay in Zimbabwe• Enough blank pages in your passport to fit the
