Welcome to the 2020 Delaware Equine Industry Directory.
The mission of the Delaware Equine Council is to promote, protect and enhance the keeping of all equine. The Council is an all volun-teer organization that is non-breed or discipline specific that works with various interests, schools, organizations and related business-es to promote the whole industry.
The Council continues to provide a variety of benefits to its mem-bers as well as to support individuals and organizations whose ef-forts support our mission. Membership applications are included in this Directory. A few of the benefits include the Equine Equipment Program, available on certain equipment used in an equine opera-tion, and the Excess Liability Insurance program, available through the Council’s insurance provider.
The Delaware Equine Council has also established the Delaware Equine Council Foundation, a 501 c3 not for profit entity whose sole purpose is to award several college scholarships annually to students enrolled in a course of equine studies or a related field. Donations to the Foundation are tax deductible. An application for a scholarship is included in this Directory and we encourage any potential candidate to apply.
The publication continues to be the single source of reference for equine activities and businesses on the DelMarVa Peninsula and we encourage you to share it with others and most especially to thank our advertisers for supporting the Council when you support their business. Our most recent “on-line” version of the Directory is now interactive so if you click on a display ad it will take you to that advertiser’s web page.
Sincerely, Ken Horeis, President, Delaware Equine Council

The greatest number of injuries to equines is in the form of punc-ture wounds and lacerations.
These tips should be helpful in administering quick care to your animal when needed…they are not meant to be all that you need, but they will get you started.

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR HORSE IS LOST
Start this process immediately, a horse can and will travel 10-20 miles a day!
• Call the State Police, the troop closest to the area where your horse is missing.• Call SPCA.• Call horse rescues.• Contact everyone in the vicinity, go door to door.• Contact local horse organizations and ask for assistance. • Use internet with emails and websites, i.e. delawareequinecouncil.org• Call radio and stations and ask for support.• Contact local feed stores and tack shops, etc.• Distribute flyers.
FINDING YOUR HORSE IS THE FIRST PROBLEM
• Identifying your horse may be a second problem......be proactive. Have recent photos, know distinguishing marks and habits, have copies of papers i.e. coggins and health certificates with you. Talk with your vet about microchips or other forms of identification for your horses.• Try to be familiar with the area where you are riding, or at least have someone with you who knows the area.
