Welcome to the 2015 Vietnam Global Positioning Summer (Vietnam GPS) Program! Learn the ASEAN Way from Vietnam’s Present and Future Leaders in Hanoi from July 18 to July 29. Apply Now! The Vietnam GPS program provides students and educators from the Americas, ASEAN, New Zealand and other APEC Economies with a special 12-day course of study in Vietnam that concentrates on how Vietnam rep- resents and is a leading economy in what is known as The ASEAN Way. The ASEAN Economic Community is the most important regional economic zone in the Asia Pacific (www.asean.org). Its 10 members include Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singa- pore, Thailand and Vietnam. The ASEAN Way and Vietnam’s Key Role This is their collaborative framework for strategic mutuality. The key principles are mutual respect and forbearance as they cooperate by consensus to share prosperity, stability and security. The ASEAN Way, which served as an inspiration for the creation of APEC, provides a gov- ernance model for the emerging multipolar world. As one of ASEAN’s strongest economies, Vietnam’s border with China and engagement with Western nations makes it a key regional and global interpreter. The Vietnam GPS is a real world global classroom providing our visiting students and educators with the opportunity to live and learn the ASEAN Way and Vietnam’s growing economic strength and role as a pivot nation within the global community. And this is done through our peer-to-peer, collaborative learning process led by Vietnam National University’s (VNU) top students and mentored by the nation’s business, trade, diplomacy and cultural leaders. All our participating students and educators develop lifelong friends and learn- ing partners as their shared study and experiences enrich and expand their global scholarship and civic engagement. Presented by the VTM Foundation and Vietnam National University The Vietnam GPS program is presented by the Virtual Trade Mission Foundation (VTM Foundation) and the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH) of VNU in Hanoi, working in cooperation with Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training and APEC business leadership. This inno- vative program builds on their continuing collaboration since 2006 in the APEC Voices of the Future, which allows special teams of students from around the Pacific Rim to at- tend the annual APEC Economic Leaders Week, ABAC Meetings and APEC CEO Sum- mit. Please see www.gpsapc.org and www.apecvoices.org. VNU is the country’s top university, recognized worldwide as a leading center of learning and professions. 2015 Vietnam GPS Program, July 18 to July 29, Hanoi USSH/VNU Downtown Campus and the nearby Grand Plaza Hotel The 2015 program is hosted and conducted by the VTM Foundation and the USSH/VNU at its downtown campus located just 15 minutes away from Vietnam’s government cen- ter, National Museum, Hanoi Stock Exchange, embassy row, and other key study visit sites. Indeed, one of the main focuses of the pro-gram is to have our visiting students develop lifelong learning partners with these young scholars who representthe new generation of Vietnam and ASEAN leaders-in-the-making. They have come of age as Vietnam has comeforward on the world stage as a new and important leader in ASEAN commerce and civics.
