Speaker Biographies

Matthew Leis Senior Manager PWC Matt is a senior manager in PwC’s New York Assurance Practice and has 12 years of accounting and auditing experience of insurance companies across a wide range of sectors. Matt’s clients have included multinational insurers and reinsurers, domestic mono-line insurers and domestic composite insurers. His experience includes a three year tour with PwC’s Switzerland Firm leading the audit of a large multinational insurer.

He has advised clients on their business and accounting issues and managed all aspects of audit and attest engagements. Matt has extensive experience with GAAP and SAP reporting, as well as internal controls over financial reporting.

Matt has his BS in Business Administration from Boston University. He is a Certified Public Accountant in New York and New Jersey, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Lisa Benoit, Insurance Industry Subject Matter Expert Workiva Lisa Benoit, Insurance Industry Subject Matter Expert at Workiva, has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry with a focus on process improvement. Prior to joining Workiva, Lisa spend 10 years as the Assistant Director of the property and casualty external statutory reporting and compliance team at The Hartford, where she implemented Wdesk. She spent three years in public accounting before entering the insurance industry and is a certified public accountant (inactive) in the state of Connecticut. Lisa earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Nichols College.

Philip Peck Vice President – Financial Planning and Analysis Peloton Group Philip brings over thirty years of consulting and industry experience with a specific focus on planning, forecasting, reporting, and business analytics assessment efforts, process transformation, and optimizing technology investments to enable superior performance. He has led numerous process improvement and finance transformation projects for global companies across various industries that span scorecard development and implementation, management reporting and analysis, budgeting and forecasting, information management business requirements, and business transformation roadmap development. Mr. Peck is a frequent speaker on planning and performance management subjects and a recognized industry thought leader. He currently serves on the FP&A Advisory Council for the Association for Financial Professionals (AFP). Prior to working for Peloton, Philip led the Performance Management Practice for the Palladium Group. He was also a key leader in the Planning and Performance Management Group for Answerthink Consulting. Prior to entering consulting, Philip worked in various business planning, finance, strategy, and sales operations capacities for Chicago area companies including Océ-USA, Ameritech, Apollo Travel Services, and RR Donnelley & Sons. He holds degrees In Industrial Management from Purdue University and a Master of Management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Cheryl Levesque, Partner Dixon Hughes Goodman Cheryl Levesque has more than 15 years of experience working in public accounting and the private sector where she has focused exclusively on the Insurance industry. In her current role, Cheryl provides clients consulting services within insurers finance and project management department focused on financial reporting and internal audit build out, including continuous monitoring and audits. Prior to joining Dixon Hughes Goodman, she directed the internal audit department of a Fortune 500 insurance company. She was responsible for overseeing financial and operational audits, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, fraud investigations, implementing continuous monitoring engagements and led the first outsourcing audit in India. Prior to that role, she spent significant time working with a Big Four accounting firm auditing public life insurance companies.

Prashant Panavalli, Senior Manager Dixon Hughes Goodman Prashant is a Senior Manager with extensive insurance industry experience in risk, hedging, regulatory compliance, accounting and IT application. He leads the development and growth of the Insurance Risk Advisory practice, focused on the Second and Third Lines of Defense for the Northeast, focused on internal audit and risk management. His areas of expertise include internal audit, project and team management, process transformation, enterprise risk management, IT, fraud and litigation consulting. Prashant’s experience include evaluation of current states of the Internal Audit Assurance Analytics Programs, including vision, mission, tools and technologies, structure and staffing, and executed the “best fit” future state recommendations, including KPI, metrics, and implementation plans, as well as process transformation build out focused on integrating risk management and financial reporting functions to be more efficient and effective.
