New Years Resolutions of Pope Francis:
9. Make it a habit to ‘Ask the Lord’: “Dear young
people,” he says, “some of you may not yet know what
you will do with your lives. Ask the Lord, and he will
show you the way. The young Samuel kept hearing the
voice of the Lord who was calling him,, but he did not
understand or know what to say, yet with the help of
the priest Eli, in the end he answered: ‘Speak, Lord, for
I am listening’ (cf. 1 Sam 3:1-10). You too can ask the
Lord: What do you want me to do? What path am I to
follow?”
10. Be Happy: “Joy cannot be held at heel: it must be let
go. Joy is a pilgrim virtue. It is a gift that walks, walks
on the path of life, that walks with Jesus: preaching,
proclaiming Jesus, proclaiming joy, lengthens and
widens that path.”

Fasting and Abstinence Regulations for Lent
1. Everyone 14 years of age or older is bound to abstain
from meat on Ash Wednesday and all the Fridays in Lent
including GOOD FRIDAY.
2. Everyone 18 years of age and under 60 years of age is
bound to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
3. On these two days of fast and abstinence only one full
meatless meal is allowed. Two other meatless meals,
sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to
each one’s needs, but together they should not equal one
full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted on these
two days, but liquids, including milk and fruit juices are
allowed. When health or ability to work would be
seriously affected, the law does not oblige.
4. To disregard completely the law of fast and abstinence is
a serious matter.
5. Going to Mass every Sunday, doing acts of charity,
forgiveness, and good deeds of virtue are obligations of
daily life of Catholics especially during Lent.

Development and Peace – Sowing seeds of justice for women
and girls in Nigeria
Supporting women and girls is a priority for Development and
Peace. When 276 girls were kidnapped by Boko Haram from
Chibok in Nigeria, our local Nigerian partner began working for
their freedom, and has managed to smuggle three girls to safety.
“The three girls, who were 17, 18 and 19 years old, still seemed to
be under the effect of the swirl of emotions generated by the trials
they experienced since their abduction,” states Raphael Yigma
Tatchi, Development and Peace program offices for Nigeria.
“Their voices and lost eyes betray deep pain…glimmers of
humanity shine through only when they courageously recount the
details of their escape.” The Share Lent collection for
Development and Peace is on the Fifth Sunday of Lent, March 22nd
Let’s watch this entertaining and powerful movie “GOD IS
NOT DEAD”: Friday March 13 @ 6 pm at St. Peter’s Church.
“An atheist philosophy professor insists the new students to declare
that God is dead. Unable to do this a student is challenged to
defend this faith and prove to the class that God is not dead.
Against all odds Josh (student) stand ups for his fait and take on
the challenge. Let the challenge begin. Appropriate for ages 12 and
up. I heartily invite parishioners to bring their family and friends.

Gospel Reflection
The story of Jesus' Transfiguration on the mountain is a preview of
great things to come. With his amazed disciples looking on, Jesus
is suddenly dressed in dazzling white and his face shines like the
sun. He is speaking with the long-dead prophets Moses and Elijah.
These two Old Testament figures represent the Law and the
Prophets. They are interrupted by a majestic voice from a cloud.
And the voice says that Jesus is God's beloved Son. The bedazzled
disciples are told to "Listen to him."
Like us, Peter, James, and John could not understand everything
about Jesus overnight. It was only after his death and resurrection
that they understood the meaning of his Transfiguration. Only then
did they realize what it meant for the Son of Man to rise from the
dead.
Discussion Questions for Gospel
How are you responding to God's command to "Listen to him"
during Lent? What message from Jesus' words or actions do you
most want to share with the world? What good can come out of
suffering? Explain. How do you show that you care about others
who are suffering?
What does the experience of the three disciples tell us about the
process of coming to know and believe in Jesus? What has helped
your own relationship with Jesus to grow over the past year?
Are there sometimes meetings of all the bishops of the world?
Such meetings are known as ‘Ecumenical Councils’. They occur
when bishops come together to reach agreement on important
issues facing the whole Church. There have been many Councils in
the course of history. The last was the Second Vatican Council, or
Vatican II, which met from 1962 to 1965.
Belgian Chocolate Easter Eggs: Commencing Saturday Feb. 21st
at both masses, our Parish will be selling Easter Eggs in support of
the Diocesan Respect Life Office. Proceeds will help fund

retreats for Grade 8 students. For more ‘info’ please contact

Update for the Pilgrimage: This years Pilgrimage will take place
on June 15,16,17 at St. Joseph Oratory, Cap-de Madeline Shrine,
St. Anne de Beaupre. It will cost approximately $460 per couple
which includes 2 nights hotel accommodations and transportation.

746-5181.
