From the Pastor’s Desk
A Doorway. This great feast which brings a conclusion to the Easter Season is, as is all such conclusions, a doorway into a new reality. That reality is the importance of the Church, the people of God. As disciples of Jesus, baptized in His name and so into His life, you and I cannot be separated from one another. He unites us in a bond that cannot be broken. Jesus, when He walked this earth was possessed by the fullness of God’s Spirit. Those who followed Him did not yet possess the Spirit for it resided in Jesus’ person. Upon His ascension, He imparts His Spirit to His followers. You see, it was the Holy Spirit in Jesus that fueled His teaching and healing. Jesus as God Son, possessed the fullness of the Holy Spirit because the three natures of God, though distinct, are one in unity. When Jesus imparts to us the Holy Spirit, as is recounted in several different ways in the Gospels, Jesus actually incorporates us into the very life of the Godhead. We become partakers in God’s Divine Life and consequently are prepared for Eternal Life. The work of the Holy Spirit in us is manifold. He gives some the ability to teach, others the ability to inspire, others the many different gifts of knowledge of material things and the things of heaven. He imparts to some the ability to lead, to some the ability to be compassionate beyond measure, to some the insight to work with the poor. To many He imparts His gift of courage, to stand up for our faith; the gift of knowledge, the ability to know God’s will; the gift of forbearance, to do God’s will despite hardship or temptation; the gift of reverence and awe, to know in our heart and mind that God is God and I am not; the gift of wisdom, to discern what is good and pleasing to God. But all these gifts have to be opened and used. The Spirit cannot reside in one who is obstinate, who embraces a life contrary to God’s will. The only reason we can partake of the Spirit is because Christ has made us holy by His passion and death. Jesus has reconciled us to God and made it possible for us, through Him, to share in God’s Divine Life. If we reject what God has done for us, the Holy Spirit cannot reside in unholiness. That is one reason why in the sacrament of penance the priest extends his hand over you, or places it on your head, (just like the Bishop did at Confirmation) as he imparts the absolution. We have all been given the Holy Spirit, first in Baptism and then confirmed in us at Confirmation. But we need to be open to the Spirit’s promptings. Be attentive to this means being attentive to the Word of God regularly, like each week at Mass, and receiving the nourishment we need, the Holy Eucharist each week, to allow the Holy Spirit to work in and through us. Without these things, you and I cannot hope to be open to the gifts of the Spirit we have received. As summer approaches, let us not put the Holy Spirit on the shelf, let us remain faithful to our Sunday assemblies wherever we find ourselves. There is a handy resource for this: masstimes.org, use it, it works anywhere and for everywhere. Everyone loves a parade, ‘specially Jesus! On Sunday, June 3rd we will celebrate the Feast of the Corpus Christi. It is a special day to show honor to our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament of His Body and Blood. A very traditional way of honoring a person is to have a parade. So that is what we are going to do after the 11:30 AM Mass. We call our parades “processions.” We will process with the Blessed Sacrament outside the church through our cemetery, around Mount Calvary and back into the church. FIRST COMMUNICANTS are especially invited to dress in their Fir st Communion clothes to help lead the procession. All of our prayerful labors are rewarded in the end with a wonderful lunch provided for all the “pilgrims” who walked with Jesus.

For an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life.
DATE TIME 05/20 8:15 PM
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Last Sunday, May 13th, three of our RCIA Candidates were brought into Full Communion with the Catholic Church. They have been studying about the Catholic Faith for about three years and are very excited to be new members of the Catholic Community. They are Andriana Onohan, Jacob Scaggs, and Eva Nordyke. Please keep them in your prayers as they continue their Journey of Faith.
AN EXCERPT FROM Manual for
Eucharistic Adoration
"In our self-centered culture and classic American emphasis on work, we often feel we have to accomplish something during our times of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. We rate our experience by how 'good' our prayer was, how heartfelt our devotion was, or how focused we could remain. Yet prayer and contemplation are fundamentally God's work, in which we are invited to participate. We need only to give Him the opening, and He will do the rest. By coming to adoration, we are handing Him the keys to our hearts, allowing the rays of His love and grace to bathe our souls in the light of His Presence, as the rays of the sun bathe our bodies in light. If we can take the time to pull away from the busyness and distractions of life and just sit at His feet, He will lead us." — Poor Clares of Perpetual Adoration, p. 33
Please come and spend some time with the Lord.
Wednesdays, 1:00-6:00 PM in the Chapel There are sign up sheets on the tables in the gathering space. Let us fill the times so there is always someone present during Adoration.
Pentecost Sunday Still filled with the Spirit. There are so many biblical readings given for the vigil and day of Pentecost (Seventeen. Really.), we could spend a month pouring over them. Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of the faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Baptism surely fills with the presence of the Holy Spirit. Conformation strengthens that holy presence. ∗ With what does the Holy
Spirit fill my heart this week?
∗ How does it help me stay faithful?
∗ Enflamed in love, who and how will I love?

Preparing for First Holy Communion
St. Michael’s third grade class celebrated a wonderful journey of faith in preparation for their First Holy Communion. In the spirit of service, they collected and sent three boxes of items, ranging from socks to gummi bears, to our service men and women in Iraq. They made beautiful banners to celebrate their sacrament. They also created journals that contained art work, prayers and personal thoughts and experiences. Their journey was completed on May 6th when they received Jesus in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Article submitted by Mary Tonkovich
Warrior of the Week This week’s Warrior of the Week is Ramone Garcia. Ramone has been a student at St. Michael School since kindergarten. He plays basketball and volleyball and runs track for the Warriors. Ramone says, “I love SMS because the teachers and students are welcoming to the new students.” When he leaves SMS, Ramone says, “I will miss my teachers, because after 9 years with them I have developed a relationship with them as friends and family.” Ramone’s advice to younger students is, “Never act a fool to your parents, respect your elders even if some are mean. Spend as much time as you can with your family because that is what is important in life.” We wish you the best in the future, Ramone!

THE WORD (Readings for May 27th, The Most Holy Trinity)
I. Deuteronomy 4:32-34, 39-40 Know this: The Lord is God of heaven and earth. There is no other. Because God worked wonders for you, keep the commands that you and your children may prosper.
II. Romans 8:14-17 You did not receive a spirit of slavery but a Spirit of adoption, through
whom we cry out “Abba Father!” The Spirit bears witness that we are children of God.
III. Matthew 28:16-20 Jesus commissioned the eleven to make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
Dear Parish Members, Our Sunday bulletin is a primary way we use to communicate with you. The parish does not pay for the bul-letin printing because of the generosity of our advertisers-many of which are our own parish members. Most are members of our local community. Please support our advertisers with your patronage. Let the business owner know that you appreciate their support of our parish through their advertising in the bulletin.
A strong and vibrant parish is good for our community and a strong business community is good for our parish.
If you would like to advertise in our bulletin, please call Barbara at 219-427-4803.
