THE LITURGY OF THE WORD
PRELUDE Wer nur den lieben Gott lässt walten, BWV 690 J.S. Bach (1685-1750) (If thou but suer God to guide thee)
Please stand as the procession enters the nave.
THE GREAT LITANY (adapted) Book of Common Prayer O God the Father, Creator of heaven and earth,
O God the Son, Redeemer of the world, Have mercy upon us. O God the Holy Spirit, Sanctier of the faithful, Have mercy upon us. O holy, blessed, and glorious Trinity, one God, Have mercy upon us. From all evil and wickedness; from sin; from the crafts and assaults of the devil.
From all blindness of heart; from pride, vainglory, and hypocrisy; from envy, hatred, and malice; and from all want of charity, Good Lord, deliver us. From lightning and tempest; from earthquake, re, and ood; from plague, pestilence, and famine, Good Lord, deliver us. From all oppression, conspiracy, and rebellion; from violence, battle, and murder; and from dying suddenly and unprepared, Good Lord, deliver us.

That it may please you to illumine all bishops, priests, and deacons, with true knowledge and understanding of your Word; and that both by their preaching and living, they may set it forth, and show it accordingly,
That it may please you to give us a heart to love you, and diligently to live after your commandments. We beseech you to hear us, good Lord. That it may please you so to rule the hearts of your servants, the President of the United States, and all others in authority, that they may do justice, and love mercy, and walk in the ways of truth, We beseech you to hear us, good Lord. That it may please you to make wars to cease in all the world; to give to all nations unity, peace, and concord; and to bestow freedom upon all peoples, We beseech you to hear us, good Lord. That it may please you to show your pity upon all prisoners and captives, the homeless and the hungry, and all who are desolate and oppressed, We beseech you to hear us, good Lord. That it may please you to inspire us, in our several callings, to do the work which you give us to do with singleness of heart as your servants, and for the common good, We beseech you to hear us, good Lord. That it may please you to preserve all who are in danger by reason of their labor or their travel, We beseech you to hear us, good Lord. That it may please you to visit the lonely; to strengthen all who suer in mind, body, and spirit; and to comfort with your presence those who are failing and inrm, We beseech you to hear us, good Lord.
4
-
That it may please you to give us true repentance; to forgive us all our sins, negligences, and ignorances; and to endue us with the grace of your Holy Spirit to amend our lives according to your holy Word, We beseech you to hear us, good Lord. That it may please you to grant to all the faithful departed eternal life and peace, We beseech you to hear us, good Lord. That it may please you to grant that in the fellowship of Mark and all the saints we may attain to your heavenly kingdom We beseech you to hear us, good Lord.
All may share prayers of petition, intercession, and thanksgiving silently, or if aloud, ending by saying “God in your mercy” to which the community will respond “hear our prayer.”
A period of time is observed for spoken prayers.

COLLECT God be with you. And also with you. Let us pray: God, you know better than we the temptations that will bring us down. Grant that our love for you may protect us from all foolish and corrupting desire. Be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning; our salvation in time of distress. Amen. THE HEBREW SCRIPTURE Deuteronomy 26:1-11
When you have come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess, and you possess it, and settle in it, you shall take some of the rst of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you shall put it in a basket and go to the place that the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for his name. You shall go to the priest who is in oce at that time, and say to him, "Today I declare to the Lord your God that I have come into the land that the Lord swore to our ancestors to give us."
When the priest takes the basket from your hand and sets it down before the altar of the Lord your God, you shall make this response before the Lord your God: "A wandering Aramean was my ancestor; he went down into Egypt and lived there as an alien, few in number, and there he became a great nation, mighty and populous. When the Egyptians treated us harshly and aicted us, by imposing hard labor on us, we cried to the Lord, the God of our ancestors; the Lord heard our voice and saw our aiction, our toil, and our oppression. The Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with a terrifying display of power, and with signs and wonders; and he brought us into this place and gave us this land, a land owing with milk and honey. So now I bring the rst of the fruit of the ground that you, O Lord, have given me." You shall set it down before the Lord your God and bow down before the Lord your God. Then you, together with the Levites and the aliens who reside among you, shall celebrate with all the bounty that the Lord your God has given to you and to your house.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to us. Thanks be to God.

(11:15) PSALM 91:1-2, 9-16

The Gospel of Jesus according to Luke.

Jesus, lled with the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River. The Spirit led Jesus into the desert where the devil tempted Jesus for 40 days. Jesus ate nothing during that time. When those days were ended, he was very hungry. The devil said to Jesus, “If you are the Son of God, tell this rock to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written in the Scriptures: ‘A person does not live only by eating bread.’”
Then the devil took Jesus and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. The devil said to Jesus, “I will give you all these kingdoms and all their power and glory. It has all been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I wish. If you worship me, all will be yours.” Jesus answered, “It is written in the Scriptures: ‘You must worship the Lord your God. Serve only him!’”
Then the devil led Jesus to Jerusalem and put him on a high place of the Temple. He said to Jesus, “If you are the Son of God, jump o! It is written in the Scriptures: ‘He has put his angels in charge of you. They will watch over you.’ ‘They will catch you with their hands. And you will not hit your foot on a rock.’”
Jesus answered, “But it also says in the Scriptures: ‘Do not test the Lord your God.’” After the devil had tempted Jesus in every way, he went away to wait until a better time. The Gospel of Jesus.
(9:00) CHILDREN'S REFLECTION The Reverend Michele Morgan (11:15) SERMON The Reverend Cindy Dopp
The sermon for the 9 AM service will be delivered after the service during sermon seminar.
The people stand as able.
AFFIRMATION We believe that God has created us. We believe that God is born among us. We believe that God will always sustain us. We believe that God calls us to bring peace, justice, and compassion into this world. We believe that in the end of all things, God’s love shall prevail. Amen.

Ad te levavi animam meam, Deus meus, in te condo, non erubescam neque irrideant me inimici mei. Et enim universi qui te expectant non confundentur.

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Holy One, Creator of heaven and earth, through Jesus Christ our Lord; who was tempted in every way as we are, yet did not sin. By his grace we are able to triumph over every evil, and to live no longer for ourselves alone, but for him who died for us and rose again. Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name: SANCTUS John Karl Hirten
We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made esh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life. On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."
10
-
After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me." Therefore, according to his command, O Holy One, We remember his death, We proclaim his resurrection, We await his coming in glory; And we oer our sacrice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Source of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrice, that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctied by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the rstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty and Holy One, now and for ever. AMEN! THE LORD’S PRAYER
Throughout the season of Lent, we are using the contemporary translation of the Lord’s Prayer: And now, as Jesus taught us, let us pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your Name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and and ever. Amen.
