SPMA Council connects students with alum Kyle Dubas & the Leafs!
SEPT 2018 - SPMA alum & Leaf’s GM, Kyle Dubas, was slated to attend the Leaf’s pre-season training camp in Niagara Falls. He reached out with an impromptu invite to the SPMA Council to bring as many students as they wanted, to the Gale Centre on SEPT 15.
SPMA Council were able to recruit multiple busloads of students in under an hour when it was announced at the SPMA first year student welcome event!!
SPMA students were treated to a Leaf’s practice, a scrimmage & the highlight, a discussion with Dubas and a panel of Leafs alum and MLSE staff.

Brock SPMA team wins 2018 Waterloo case competition
Participants from university teams across Ontario were provided with a real case problem from U Sports (Canadian governing body for Canadian University National Sports Championships) on selected challenges associated with hosting these major University sports events annually

Brock Sport Management Professor
Laura Cousens and students worked
with the Commonwealth Canada
youth program “Sport Works” in the
Turks and Caicos to helped deliver a
new youth participation and learning
initiative.
Students ran school programs and
played a significant role in helping
run the first ever Inter-island tag
Rugby Festival. For their efforts,
they achieved a credit towards their
degree but equally, came away with
a meaningful life experience.

Campus to Career
More than 100 Brock Sport Management majors annually attain an internship with a sports or sports-related organization
Internships are full-time, unpaid experiential placements running the length of one term (SEPT-DEC or JAN-APR or MAY-AUG)
Students achieve 2 full major credits toward the 4th year of their degree
Eligibility to apply for the internship option is based on completion of 3rd year/minimum 13 credits and a SPMA major average of 70%
The Sport Management Experiential Co-Ordinator maintains relationships with a large number of organizations and individuals in the private, not-for-profit and public sport sectors, and guides student in their preparation for the internship application process
Katie Desveaux (Honours BSM 2018)
completed her internship with the Canadian
Olympic Committee during the PyeongChang,
South Korea Olympics. She now works full-
time in the Brock Sport Management program
as the Experiential Co-Ordinator.

Toronto Blue Jays Executive Suites Client Services Co-Ordinator &
part of Blue Jays Leadership Development Program (LDP)
On behalf of the Blue Jays LDP Evan was involved in the 2020 SPMA
Alumni Day, facilitating the Student Case Competition based on a
real-life scenario provided by the Jays organization for Brock.
The Blue Jays have been a significant Sport Management internship
partner and employer of our graduates for 20 years.
