School Calendar

• The school year in Portugal is organized in three terms: • The first term starts on 15th September and ends on 16th

December.• The second term starts on 3rd January and ends on 23rd March.• The third term starts on 10th April and ends on 8th Jun for sixth and

ninth grades, and ends on 15th Jun for fifth, seventh and eighth grades.

• In each term we have two tests for each subject: Two tests of Maths, of Portuguese, of History, of Science, of Chemistry, of Geography, of English, of French, one of Art and one of Technology Education.

Holidays

• Christmas - from 19th December to the 2nd January

• Carnival - from 20th to the 22nd February• Easter - from 26th March to the 9th April• Summer – from June to September

• The marks in Portugal are from 1 to 5:

• 1- Low• 2 - Unsatisfactory• 3 - Regular• 4 - Good• 5 - Excellent

• We don’t wear slippers. In Portugal the students don´t need to take a lot of clothes to school because our climate is warmer.

• In Portugal, it rarely snows and the students go to school with the clothes that they want. If we want to keep anything, we have a locker.

Homework

• We have homework every single day. Generally we have two exercises for class.

• We get more homework from: the English teacher, Portuguese, French, Maths and history.

• The students who don’t do the homework are punished: they get a note in a behaviour observation sheet.

Subjects

• We have 15 subjects and these are French, Portuguese, English, Natural Sciences, Physical and Chemical Sciences, Physical Education, Arts workshop or Technological Education, Geography, History, Mathematics, Civics, AAE (Study Support Activities), Visual Education, EMRC (Catholic Religious Moral Education). The most important ones that need more study are Portuguese and Mathematics.

• Well .. The most popular and least popular subjects are:• - Most popular: arts, physical education, Visual Education,

technology education and English.• -Less popular: Maths.

• In my school there are many events and celebrations, where we can have fun and learn.

• We have the Halloween party, where we have to come to school masked.

The Roman Fair

• In June we take part of the roman fair, organized by the city, where everybody wears Roman clothes (including our mayor).
