Pearl Harbor Elementary is an AVID School!!!Thursdays: College Shirt Day!

AVID’s mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

AVID Elementary incorporates:Student Success Skills – encompassing communication skills (e.g. listening, speaking, writing), self-advocacy skills, note-taking strategies, critical thinking, and study skills.

Organizational Skills – both mental and physical; students learn to use organizational tools, as well as learn and practice skills around time management and goal-setting.

WICOR Lessons – emphasize instruction on writing to learn, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading to learn in all content areas.

Partnerships – among students, classrooms, grade levels, schools, feeder patterns, families, and communities.

Pearl Harbor Elementary School Hours7am-7:30am: Doors to cafeteria open and Breakfast is served (Regular Priced Breakfast $1.10)

7:30am-7:45am: K, and 1st Report to Cafeteria

7:30am-7:45am: 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th Report to Field

7:45am: All grades Tardy Bell

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 2pm student dismissal

Lunch Times: K/1st 11-11:30am; 2nd-4th 11:30-12; 5th/6th 12-12:30pm (Regular Priced Lunch $2.50)

All students will have morning and afternoon recess.

Wednesday: 12:20pm student dismissal

Lunch Times: K/1st 10:40-11:10; 2nd/3rd 11:10-11:40; 11:40-12:10

All students will have morning recess.

Parents are permitted to come and eat lunch with their child anytime. Please sign into office before entering cafeteria.

Drop off and Pick up Options

Auto Rider: Please see office to receive your car placard.Students will be dropped off in front of cafeteria. Students will be picked up by office in student waiting area.

Bus Rider: Please purchase bus pass. Students will be brought to school cafeteria and picked up in front of cafeteria.

Walker: Parents may pick up children in school courtyard.

For safety reasons parents are not permitted in hallways before/after school during student arrival and dismissal.

Kindergarten Drop off and Pick up Procedures

Before School

1. Drop students off in cafeteria by 7:30am.

2. Your child will receive a tag with class

animal. Please keep on bag at ALL times.

3. Students sit behind cone with classroom

animal. If students are not there, leave

them with a supervisor (yellow vest).

4. Supervisors will excuse students from

cafe to Power Walk.

5. Supervisors will escort students to their

class.

After School

1. Students going to A+ or riding the

school bus will be dropped off at the

cafeteria.

2. Students in CDC/AMR will be taken to

their leader.

3. Students getting picked up by car will

be taken to the car pick up line.

4. Teachers will wait with the rest of the

students in the courtyard area for 5

minutes after the bell. If students are

not picked up on time, they will be

taken to the office.

*Students should be picked up no later than 2:25pm. No later than 12:45 on Wednesdays.

• Lunch Payments- payments can be made anytime but need to be in by 9am to be applied for that day.

Pearl Harbor Elementary School Community Council (SCC)

• School Community Council enables shared decision making among principals, teachers, parents, students, and community members to improve student achievement.

• The primary role of SCC is to review and evaluate the School’s academic and financial plan.

• The SCC meets every other month at 8:30 am in the office conference room. All parents are welcomed to attend.

Gifted and Talented Program• STEM-themed Enrichment Program that meets 2x a week for 45-60 minutes.

• Targets those students in Grades 3-6 who are identified as Gifted and Talented, Potential Gifted and Talented, or highly motivated using our Radford Complex Matrix.

• Screening is conducted by our Gifted and Talented Coordinator, Courtney Mizufuka-Oda. Two screenings conducted per year.

Band and Ukulele Classes: Grades 4th-6th; meet 2x a week after school $25 and there is also a Wednesday school time option.

Chorus Classes: Grades 4th-6th; meets on Wednesdays; $25

Green Sharks● Students in Grades 4 - 6 meets after-school two times a

week.● Students discuss & collaborate on various sustainability

topics such as reducing waste and gardening.Don’t forget to bring a re-usable bottle to school!

We have a NEW water re-filling station in the cafeteria!!

Hawaiian Studies: Kumu HulaliStudents have Hawaiian Studies on PLC days about 2x a month.

Hawaiian culture, history and language with integration of Hawaiian concepts and content into

classroom lessons.

Hawaiian education leads to the development of a cultural lens that preserves core Hawaiian

perspectives.

Hula Classes: Wednesday Afternoons $45 monthly

Physical Education: Mr. K

Please bring water bottle and closed toe shoes on PE days (PLC day).

Please no skirts or dresses on PLC “special” days.

Facilitates SPO (shark patrol officers), and organized athletics: basketball, volleyball, track.
