The Gospel of today is based on the Jewish community in
which casual and unskilled workers were hired according to
the needs of the land owners. It was some kind of a daily em-
ployment, depending on who came first or on whether or not
a job was available at any given time. Accordingly, it is not
as if those who were hired late, at the eleventh-hour were lazy
people, or people trying to avoid work. They honestly wanted
to work but nobody hire them. Generally, the strong people
would be the ones to be employed first. These late laborers
were surely the weak and feeble. What do we think now of an
employer who comes along and takes these people, paying
them as much as all the others? Only a merciful God who
thinks differently from us, human beings could do this. God’s
ways are not our ways as the first reading tells us. The Jews
had seen themselves as the privileged and strong ones. They
looked low on the gentiles. Jesus wanted them to know that
the Kingdom of God belongs to all, and we are invited not
because of our merits but because of God’s love, lavished on
each one according to His design. It is not the amount of time
we have as Christians that matters but the quality of love that
we manifest; love that should overflow to all, so that every-
body may enjoy God’s love today and in eternity.

As we begin another Faith Formation Year we encour-age parents to set an example for their children. Par-ents are the child's first teacher. Religious education starts from home by parents living their faith on a daily basis.
Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Luke 18:16
Please pray for those who are homebound or healing.
Also pray for the lonely, homeless, and for all
our loved ones who have gone before us.
