: a camp where people who have recently joined the U.S. Army, Navy, or Marine Corps receive their basic
training
: a short but very difficult training program : a program or situation that helps people become much
better at doing something in a short period of time
Purpose
To build alignment with the Statewide Grassmiddles
Organizations, Local Community Level Oral Health
Coalitions and the WV Oral Health Coalition, and bring
together a unified team focused on a path forward
toward realizing the 2020 vision:To improve oral health across the lifespan and eradicate
dental disease in children.

HISTORY OF ORAL HEALTH IN WEST VIRGINIA
WHERE ARE WE TODAY?
Year 2 of a DentaQuest Grant for Oral Health Funding
Opportunity for Grass Roots and Grass Middle organizations who
have a desire to incorporate and/or strengthen their oral health
promotion, outreach, education and messaging.
Completing a Grant through Oral Health America “Smiles Across
America” Program to provide dental sealants to uninsured and
underinsured children throughout the state.
14 sites participating
135 children seen
426 sealants placed
167 prophylaxis
132 fluoride varnish
52 bitewing x-rays
Received 501(c)3 status as of May 2016
Registered as a Non-Profit Business in the State of WV
Received a capacity building grant from Sisters Health
Foundation
Developed a Board of Directors and began strategic planning
process
OUR WORK
Develop and promote the oral health policy through:
Education of members
Promotion of educational materials
Outreach and technical assistance
Effective communication with all partners
Coordination of events
Sharing of oral health data and surveillance information
OUR CHALLENGES:
Consistency in communicating and educating the public on
new and revised oral health policy and current standard of
care.
Providing technical assistance and outreach at the state and
local levels to inform students, parents, schools, providers and
communities of the changes and assistance within their areas
for oral health care
WVOHC is committed to working with policy-
makers, advocates, community partners and health
providers to guarantee that oral health is an
essential component of overall health.

WHAT IS THE ROLE OF THE MARSHALL UNIVERSITY
COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL ORAL HEALTH TEAM?
The Marshall University Oral Health team is comprised of
Regional Oral Health Coordinators that work in conjunction with
the WV Department of Health and Human Resources Oral Health
Program.
The Regional Oral Health Coordinators promote consistent and
uniform oral health outreach and education and are responsible
for a variety of duties and assignments that promote oral health
activities across WV and cover the entire lifespan.
ACTIVITIES
• State wide oral health surveillance (school, adult, senior & perinatal)
• Promotion of fluoride programs (rinse, varnish, water)
• Provide technical assistance for the expansion of school-based dental sealant programs
• Support community & school oral health education through training, teaching & resources
• Education of non-dental health professionals/CE
• Promotion of evidence-based best oral health practices, policies and issues
• Serve as the go-to for all things oral health within the assigned regions of the state
