Lincoln Hopper CEO MS Queensland

Lincoln Hopper is the CEO of MS Queensland.

Having spent the last 25 years working in the health and community service sector, Lincoln initially began his working life in the finance industry as a chalkie at the Sydney Stock Exchange and in a short space of time progressed to being a licensed stockbroker for Pembroke Securities. A stock market crash and a reality check later, Lincoln turned his back on a very promising career in pursuit of “something more”.

He commenced working with the Sydney City Mission in 1990, firstly in Kings Cross with disadvantaged and homeless young people and then in a diverse range of roles from frontline social work, program management, policy and advocacy, fundraising and executive leadership including national leadership of 2,000 staff.

Lincoln has more than 15 years management experience, including the last seven years as an Executive and is currently CEO and Company Secretary of MS Queensland.

A most recent highlight for Lincoln was MS Queensland receiving top honours in the 2014 PwC Transparency in Reporting Awards.

In June 2013 Lincoln founded the Queensland Progressive Neurological Disease Alliance (QPNDA) – made up of 10 neurological not-for-profit organisations across Queensland. The Alliance discusses common sector issues including funding, policy, legislation, service delivery and care models as Australia prepares for the rollout of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). In 2014 the QPNDA began using the new name ‘NeuroCare Network’ and were recognised as the winner of the Westpac Community Leaders Awards 2014 “Partnerships for Purpose” category.

Lincoln lives in Brisbane’s bayside, has a beautiful wife Julie and two equally gorgeous children. His passion for anything to do with aviation and flying is second only to his desire to see people living with MS to get the best out of life.

Kaja Ferro The Highpoint Group of Companies

Kaja Ferro completed a Bachelor of Business Management at QIT in 1986 and then worked in market research for several years before moving to the Department of Industry Development to work on special projects. Kaja married her husband Peter in 1989 and gradually joined the family property business on a part time basis while raising 4 kids. Kaja worked closely with her father in law, Lou Ferro who was a well-known Queensland builder and helped to manage the commercial property portfolio.

In 2009 Peter was diagnosed with MS (having had symptoms since 2000). After Peter’s diagnosis, Kaja applied her research skills to learning about MS and was disappointed to find that the treatments are mostly ineffective and have adverse consequences and that despite decades of research a cause or cure seemed so remote. On seeing a short TV segment on Professor Michael Pender’s EBV research findings, Kaja was inspired to learn more and thus connected to MS Queensland and has been an incredible advocate for their research work to date.
