The Candidates Johnny HopkinsSloan KetteringTRADITIONALIST PROGRESSIVIST 4. The Leadership Collective Though there is a popular vote the election is won by thecandidate who wins the majority of the LeadershipCollectives votes. LC Electors for each neighborhood are based on: The 2 Neighborhood Watch members for every neighborhood 1 voter for every 25 households in the neighborhood The minimum for amount of votes per neighborhood is 3 whether or not the neighborhood has a total of 25 households. The candidate that wins the majority takes all Collectivevote for the neighborhood 5. Why the Leadership Collective? Created by the first founders of Media as a compromise for Mayoralelections. At the time, some towns people thought that popular election was too reckless. Others believed that it wasnt moral to allow the Town council to select the Mayor. Compromise was to allow for election of collective members to elect the mayor. Article II, section 1 Popular vote was viewed as reckless during this early time becausethe amount of uneducated Hobos living in the town at the time. Thefounders didnt think they could make an informed decision. 6. The Results Hopkins wins just 7 neighborhoods popular elections,so he wins all their leadership collective votes Riddlewood 405 voters Sunny Brae 328 voters Lima Estates 305 voters Rocky Run 230 voters Pinecrest 190 voters Marple 150 voters Tyler Arboretum - 40 voters 9. But How?! Kettering won the popular election with 3,437 votes 84 collective votes Hopkins lost the popular election with 2,452 votes 86 collective votes Winner take all method allows for even the smallestmargin of victory to get all the collective votes forthat neighborhood. NOT A PRACTICAL METHOD 10. Does the Electoral College Work? In theory SURE! At one time TOTALLY BUT NOT ANYMORE People are believed to be educated and good intentioned votes should count.
