The order students follow will be determined by what Academic Team they are placed on

CORE SUBJECTS
Criteria for Pre-AP,Accelerated Courses
Pre-AP– Students may choose from Language Arts,
Science, and Texas History– Students do not have to take Pre-AP
courses in 7th grade in order to take them in 8th grade
– It is required that at least a 75% grade average at each grading period is maintained
– Students are encouraged to speak with their current academic teachers about Pre-AP recommendations
Pre AP and Upper Level Courses
All Pre-AP, and Accelerated courses will require extensive outside work and in-depth study. Homework and outside projects will occur on a regular basis.
The time committed to complete work for these classes and the time committed for after school extra and co-curricular activities is extensive

Mathematics

Accelerated Math
Pre-Algebra– Students are placed in this class per WISD
Advanced Math Criteria– Prerequisites (subject to revision)
• Students should meet these three criteria to be eligible for enrollment in this course
– 6th Grade Final Year Math Average of 80 or higher– 2020 Math STAAR Performance at “Meets Level”– MAP (middle of year or end of year) results at the
60th percentile or higher
Math 7 Pre-Algebra
Designed to prepare students to take Algebra in the 8th gradePre-Algebra concepts such as geometry, numeration, properties, etc. will be covered7th and 8th Grade Math TEKS are compacted into the curriculum
Pre AP Algebra I
Taken in 8th GradePrerequisite – successful completion of 7th grade Pre-AlgebraSuccessful completion will result in one high school Math creditThe credit will follow student to the high schoolGrade Point Average will follow to the high school
PAP Algebra I Cont.
Grade Points will be awarded Grade Point Average (GPA)will follow student to high school GPA is the numeric representation of the final course grade.Considered an Upper Level Class with adjusted GPA (a higher amount of Grade Points are given)
This class will follow the high school late work and re-take grading policiesStudents taking Algebra in 8th grade must take the End of Course (EOC) State Exam
One of five EOC Exams they must pass to graduate
Algebra I Cont.
Taking Algebra in the 8th grade requires taking Calculus or another upper level Math course senior yearTaking Algebra provides earlier participation in dual credit courses to better prepare for STEM career experiencesStudents are not permitted to re-take Algebra I once they have passed this course
8th Grade Mathematics Advanced
• Emphasis on Algebra Readiness• Pre-AP level addresses essential
knowledge and skills for 8th grade math in greater depth and faster pace than in Math 8.
• Springboard Course 3 Resource will be used
• Designed to prepare students for Pre-AP Algebra I in the 9th grade

Physical Education
It is a junior high requirement that students take two years of physical education
Students will take PE\Athletics in both the 7th and 8th grade Students may take Tennis class to fulfill their P.E. requirementThere are two options for off-campus PE
AthleticsAthletics is for those students wanting to participate in University Interscholastic League Competitive SportsThis is an “honors” PE courseStudents must participate in at least one sport or try out for at least twoAt the beginning of the year, if a student is not participating in boys football or girls volleyball, they may be placed in P.E. until they make an athletic team
Students will dress out everyday and be expected to work out everyday– Doctor’s notes will be
required if a student is unable to participate
Completion of a medical history, physical examination, and parental permission forms are required prior to participationFor students to be placed in Athletics, all forms, signed by a parent, must be turned in when school resumes in August
Athletics Cont.
Students must meet state mandated academic “no pass no play” requirements to be eligible to participateA physical fitness test and questionnaire may be completed in 6th grade PE classes later in the spring for those wanting to be in Athletics
A presentation at all Intermediate Schools will be held for all future 7th
graders to discuss the policies and procedures of Athletics.

Off CampusPhysical Education
Students cannot be in athletics with Off Campus P.E.Will take place of one class period, student will leave campus at the end of 7th periodStudents have two options for Off Campus Physical Education
Off Campus Activity or Sport such as equestrian, swimming, gymnasticsPrior approval must be given
Woodbridge CC Golf ProgramMcMillan will receive a limited amount of slots to fill determined by the Woodbridge Golf ProThere is a financial requirement

There are no guarantees that your child will be placed in the elective of their choice– Good possibility for Band, Orchestra or
Choir
The priority is to place your child in the core subjects first, then required courses and then electives

This is a reading intervention classStudents are placed in this class who need extra reading instructionWill take place of their one elective classWhen progress has been made the student’s schedule will be changed back to their choice of elective class

Interdisciplinary Academic Teaming
There will be three Academic TeamsStudents on an academic team will all have the same core subject teachersTime is provided so the academic and social needs of each individual student can be better met
An Academic Team is a smaller supportive group for students to belong
There will be activities, competitions, recognition assemblies and other events planned through their teams

School hours are 8:15 am to 3:30 pmSchool doors will open at 7:30 amStudents will report to the cafeteria or other assigned supervised areas upon arrival to schoolTutorials begin at 7:45 am (7:30 am with appointment from teacher)Teachers will have morning and/or afternoon tutorials available to students every day
