WHAT IS 5TH GRADE IN A MIDDLE SCHOOL???

There is a 5th grade wing for the building

There are 3 to 4 teachers assigned to a team which their rooms are close to each other. You will switch classes within your team.

You have your own schedule, please ignore the bells until next year!!!

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE

To enhance our delivery of curriculum, we are going to chunk Social

Studies and Science. The schedule is as follows:

1st MP: Social Studies

2nd MP: Science

3rd MP: Science

4th MP: Social Studies

Students will not receive a grade for Social Studies in marking period 2 & 3.

Students will not receive a grade for Science in marking period 1 & 4.

NEW 6TH -8TH GRADE STUDENTS

• Seven Period Day

• Cores – Math, English, SS, Science, Reading or Language

• 2 specials a day ( PE, Health, Music, Art, STEM, BCIT, Communications)

Schedules will be given to all new students today. All other schedules and information is relased on HAC on 8/23 @ 4 pm.

You will be given an opportunity to locate your locker and practice your combination with the assistance of your teacher on Wednesday.

SCHOOL WIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOR SYSTEM

SWPBIS – MPS – MRS. GALE

• Kick off is first week for students!

• Assembly and introduction.

• First two weeks, all students will be taught SWPBIS Lessons.

• Acknowledgment system will start that week.

• 5th and 6th grade students will report to the Cafeteria

• 7th and 8th grade students will report to the gym

• Breakfast is available in the morning in the cafeteria for all students.

• Students will report to their FIRST period class

BUS EXPECTAIONS

BUS RULES TO FOLLOW –SAFETY!

Safety & Manners are number 1. Be courteous to the driver and to each other.

The first few rows of each bus are reserved for 5th grade students.

Observe classroom conduct.

Keep the bus clean.

Cooperate with the driver.

Remember riding the bus is a privilege.

END OF SCHOOL DAY

END OF THE DAY

• You will be dismissed to your lockers

• You will leave through the cafeteria if you ride the bus or the auditorium doors if you walk or get a ride.

• All buses are going to be lined up when dismissal occurs. There will be numbered slots where your bus will always be. ALWAYS GO TO THE SAME SLOT!!! NO MATTER THE BUS NUMBER.

• Students who ride the bus will line up behind the appropriate cone and wait to be dismissed by an adult. Students will walk to their bus.

• Please stay behind the yellow line that is painted on the sidewalk. No one is to be on the road.

• The first few rows are for 5th grade students. Bus drivers will tell you which rows are reserved. All bus drivers went through trainings.

• 6th grade students will sit behind the 5th grade students.

BULLYING –OPPOSITE OF SWPBIS BEHAVIOR

3. To use browbeating language or behavior.

Definition: To use words or physical action to put down or embarrass another individual. This includes all SOCIAL MEDIA. THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

CELL PHONES & INTERNET

• Cell phones are allowed to be carried, but must be turned off. ( school bag and baskets )

• Students are not permitted to take Cell Phones to the bathroom or lockers with them during class time. IF a student is ill, they must go to the nurse and not text a parent to come pick them up.

• Use good judgment! You have ChromeBooks… If cellphones are out when not appropriate, they may be taken by adults…

• If you need to contact a parent during the day, come to the office.

LUNCH

LUNCH

• To start the school year, there are assigned seats to learn the rules and procedures. The goal is to allow students to sit with who they would like to, but we reserve the right to assign them if needed.

• One person per seat, no more than 12 to a table.

• We will send you by tables the first few days as you get use to the routine.

• Walk to the lunch line. Please do not run.

• Make sure to clean tables and put trash in appropriate place. Trashcans are by the registers and in the corners of the Cafe.

• You can talk, but keep the noise down so you can hear announcements.

• When dismissed by our Cafeteria Aids, check your area for trash, clean up (even if it is not yours) and leave in an orderly fashion by walking.

CHROMEBOOK DISTRIBUTION

ADJUSTED SCHEDULE FOR THE FIRST DAY

• On the first day, only the 5th grade classes reports.

• 5th Grade will report to the cafeteria. Teachers will escort you to class

• First period teachers, which are also your homeroom teachers, will come down to meet you. The only thing you need to remember is who your first period teacher is Day 1.

• DAY 1: August 28th• Introductions, Schedules, Lockers will be

addressed, emergency spots introduced.

DAY 1 FUN!!!!

• Students will conclude their first day

with game day. The staff will have

activities and games set up. A water ice

truck will be by!

5TH GRADE SCHEDULES & SCAVENGER HUNT

• There are 5 tables set up out side alphabetically

• Stop by the table that is set by last name to get your schedule.

• On the 1st day, teachers will review and teach you your schedule.

• This is so you can look at which classrooms you will be in.

• Also, you will get a sheet for a scavenger hunt… See if you can

find the items on the sheet as you tour the building.

6TH, 7TH, & 8TH GRADE NEW STUDENTS

• Grade the Scavenger Hunt paper on the way out of the Auditorium

• Please report to the guidance office. We will print out your schedule for you and help you understand the wing you are going to and classrooms. Schedules for siblings are not available until the 23rd on Home Access.
