What will I study? 9 What happens in my classes?

At Live Language we believe that our lessons should be student-centred. That means that the classes focus on what you need to practice, not what the text book says. Our teachers use the text book to meet your needs and challenge you to do better.

You will have regular progress tests so you can see which areas you have improved. You will also have tutorials with your teacher every 3 weeks. You’ll discuss your performance and set goals for the future.

We have new students every Monday so you will join a class that has already started. Don’t worry about this! Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and no two students are the same. Even on your first day, you may know some vocabulary and grammar that other students don’t. We encourage you to develop your study skills to help you improve outside class. Most days, your teacher will ask you to find a news story, article or video that you like. The next day you’ll tell your classmates about it. You can teach vocabulary and have discussions about the topic. This helps your fluency and makes learning fun.

In General English classes, you will learn grammar, vocabulary and practise your reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. All of our classes are in English so every minute is an opportunity for you to use your language. In the exam preparation classes, you’ll learn about the exam and look at your skills through the examiner’s eyes. We use the examiner’s criteria to improve your performance in each part of the exam you are taking.
