• A • Absences-Excessive absences hinder a child's

progress. If your child is absent, you must send a note to the school when he/she returns. Please include your child's name, teacher's name, date of absence, and the reason for the absence. These notes are kept in the student's permanent folder in the classroom.

• Attendance-Regular school attendance is essential for your child to make the most of his/her education. Please make every effort to have your child at schooleveryday.

• Alphabet Knowledge-We will learn the letters of the alphabet and the sounds that the letters make in Kindergarten. I will do an alphabet knowledge assessment on your child each nine-weeks.

Arrival-Your child should come to school no earlier than 7:30 A.M. Teachers on duty will dismiss the students from the cafeteria/auditorium and they walk with their classmates to the classroom. In order to eat breakfast car riders, walkers and van riders have to be to school between 7:30 and 7:45.BBus- Riding the school bus is a privilege and improper behavior will not be tolerated.Book Orders- I will send home Scholastic book orders each month for you and your child to look over. If you want to place an order, please make checks payable toyour child's teacher. I place all orders online. It takes about a week for the orders to come in.

Backpacks-Your child's backpack should be big enough to hold a pocket folder. Backpacks help your child carry folders, notes, projects, and books to and from school. Please check your child's backpack DAILY.Book It-The Pizza Hut Book-It program begins in October and ends in March. Your child must read six books a month in order to receive the pizza coupon. A letter will be sent out in October explaining the program.Breakfast-Breakfast is served beginning at 7:30 A.M. each morning. Parents are encouraged to pre-pay their meals by sending a check or money to the cafeteria.BLAST- PBS School wide Expectations B- Be the Best You L-Listen with Understanding A- Accept Differences S- Strive for Excellence T- Take Responsibility

Clothing-Please dress your child in comfortable clothing that is appropriate for kindergarten. Northeast has a dress code that will be enforced. It is a good idea to label all coats and sweaters. Flip Flops are not allowed at school. Parents will be called for proper clothing.

Communication- Communication between home and school is very important. If you feel the need to talk to me, please call the school, send me a note, or email me.  DDiscipline/Homework Agenda-Discipline agendas will be sent home each day. You should sign and return them to school every day.Dismissal-Dismissal is at 2:45 P.M.

E Emergency Sheet-Your child will have an emergency sheet on file in the classroom. At least two working phone numbers are required in order to contact parents in case of illness or emergency.

 FField Trips-We take several educational field trips during the year. A permission slip will be required anytime that we will be taking a bus for a field trip . If we do not not receive a permission slip, your child will not be allowed to go with the class.

Fire drills-Your child will participate in frequent fire drills throughout the year. We will practice the procedures before our first fire drill so that your child will be prepared.

GGood Behavior-Good Behavior is Rewarded.

HHomework-Your child will have homework: reading AR library books and/or decodable books, a math sheet, or a handwriting sheet.

Habits of Mind – HOM The HOMs that kindergarten is focusing on are MANAGING IMPULSIVITYPERSISTENCE THINKING ABOUT YOUR THINKING (METACOGNITION) LISTENING WITH UNDERSTANDING AND EMPATHY THINKING AND COMMUNICATING WITH CLARITY AND PRECISIONQUESTIONING AND POSING PROBLEMS

IImmunizations-All students must be immunized against certain diseases or must present a statement that the student should not be immunized. Proof of immunizations must be presented to the school within 30 days of enrollment.

Illness-Please do not send your child to school if he/she has a temperature. If yourchild becomes ill at school, you will be called to come and get your child. We need atleast two working phone numbers at all times in order to contact you in case ofillness or emergency.

JJournal Writing- We spend time everyday doing journal writings. Journal writing is a process that begins with scribbles. You should see a growth in your child's writing throughout the year. We are speaking and writing in complete sentences.

K Kindergarten Kids-Kindergarten is a special time for your child. I want to make thisexperience the best possible. "Kids come first!"

L Lunch-The cost of lunch is $2.00 and breakfast costs $1.25. Our reduced lunch is 0.40. Our lunchtime for Ms. Carraway is 10:45-11:10 and Ms. Holloway 10:50-11:15 and Mrs. Schmidt 10:55-11:20 and Mrs. Winnie is 11:00 AM - 11:25 AM. You are welcome to come and eat with your child. Please sign in at the office and wait for us in the cafeteria.

Learning Centers/Task Rotations-We use learning centers in the classroom to support our Multiple Intelligences. When we are in learning centers, we are learning to cooperate with others. We are body smart, nature smart, self smart, people smart, word smart, logic smart, art smart and music smart.Literacy Stations-Literacy stations are where students work while I meet with small groups of children for guided reading.MMath Tubs-We use math tubs in addition to our state adopted math curriculum.Free exploration in math tubs is an excellent way to stimulate creativity.NNotes-Look for notes from the office and the classroom to come home in your child's take-home folder.

Nurse's Clinic-Nurse Elmore is our school nurse. She is on campus each Wednesday.OOutside-Your child will have outside time daily, weather permitting. Please dressyour child appropriately for the weather.

Pledge of Allegiance and School Pledge-Each morning we will recite thepledge of allegiance to the United States and school pledge ( I pledge today to do my best in reading, math and all the rest. I promise to obey the rules in my class and in the school. I’ll respect myself and others too. I’ll expect the best in all I do. I’m here to learn all I can to try my best and be all I am.Parent Involvement-We love Parent Involvement! Please be involved in your child's Kindergarten year as much as you can.

Parties-We will have various parties throughout the year. We will contact you to help with our celebrations.PTO (Parent/Teacher Organization)-All parents are encouraged to join the school's PTO.

 RReport Cards-We are on a nine-week grading period. Your child will receive a report card each nine-weeks.Recess-Your child will have recess everyday after specials.Rules/Expectations-We have five rules/expectations in Kindergarten.Red 1. Listen and Follow Directions.Green 2. Raise your hand for permission to speak.Orange 3. Stay in Your Spot until given permission to get up.Blue 4. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.Yellow 5. Show respect for self, others and school property. Read-Read to your child daily and let your children see you reading daily.Restrooms-We have restrooms in our classroom and your child is allowed to go when needed.

SSafety-Your child's safety is top priority. I take every precaution when your child is in my care. Please send a note with your child or call the school if he/she is to go home a different way.

School Supplies- 3boxes of tissue, 2boxes of baby wipes, 3 hand sanitizers, 3 large glue sticks, a pencil pouch, a book bag, a primary tablet, 2 vinyl folders or 3 regular folders. 2 bags of candy, and 1 box of Ziploc bags – these are additional supplies – if you can send that would be great. Sometimes we run out of certain items and I may ask you to replace supplies during the year. Please have these items at home so your child can do their homework: a box of crayons, 1 pack of pencils and scissors.Shoes-It is very important to wear comfortable shoes. I suggest closed toedsneakers for all of our Kindergarten activities. T Transportation-If your child will be going home a different way than what I have inmy files, you MUST send me a note. I will not let your child gowith another adult or a different way unless you have notified me.

Take-Home Folders-Please check your child's folder every night.Tardies-Students late to school (after 8:10 A.M.) are considered tardy. The office and I keep a record of these tardies and will document them on your child's report card. You need to take your child to the office to get a tardy pass in the morning. First bell is 7:45, please make sure your child is in the classroom at 7:45 ready to learn.Toys-Toys from home are not allowed.

UUnits and Themes and Concepts-We will study many different units, themes and concepts this year.

V Visitors-We encourage visitors in our classroom. Please make sure that you sign inat the office before you come to the classroom. I will be looking for your stickerwhen you enter the classroom.Volunteers-We always need volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering at ourschool, please contact me. We would love to have you! The county does require a background check for the safety of your children.

W,X,Y,ZZZZs Your child should get plenty of rest each night. Kindergarten students require 10-12 hours of sleep a day. It is so important for your child to be alert and ready to learn each day. Set a bedtime and be consistent.

Technology- We are fortunate to have many nice computer programs available to us at Northeast. Some of the programs include: Study Island, Waterford, and Success Maker. We are in the process of setting these programs up. We will be giving you more information on these programs when they become available.
