From August 2008 HSE operates under the auspices of the Government of the Russian Federation
In October 2009 HSE was awarded of status of the National Research University. HSE is the only socio-economic university among 29 national research universities in the Russian Federation

HSE in MoscowHSE in MoscowAt present the Moscow campus is located in 26 buildings throughout the city with the main campus in the downtown Moscow.
HSE uses a network of modern dormitories providing about 4,500 places (including 3,500 places in HSE's own dormitories) and Professors Guest House. In 2010 a new hostel for 2,000 students was commissioned near the town of Odintsovo in Moscow region.
