NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME August 09, 2020 TAKE HEART! IT IS I! Are you under the impression as a mature Christian, that somehow if you really had enough faith, you would no longer be afraid? After all, Scripture says in 2 Timothy: For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, of power and of a sound mind.” Ah, but we are afraid aren’t we? Afraid of all kinds of things and outcomes. We are afraid of failure and rejection, pain and suffering, being abandoned. So many times these fears prevent us from taking a step out of the boat and walking in faith. Today’s reading is about St. Peter and a storm. In the story Jesus doesn’t speak His word of power and calm the seas. Instead, He tells Peter to get out of the boat and walk through the waves to Him even though he’s frightened. Perhaps a strong faith isn’t one that allows no fear, but like St. Peter’s, a strong faith allows us to walk ahead through the storm even though we are afraid. Let’s ask God for the courage to take that step, reminding us that Jesus is always waiting in the midst of any storm. MASS ATTENDANCE As you know, due to the restrictions with regard to the Coronavirus, we are only allowed a certain number of people in the church at the Masses. Please be aware that if we do reach our maximum we cannot let anyone else in that day. And although it breaks our hearts to have to turn anyone away it is out of our hands and we must abide by the law. We greatly appreciate your understanding and patience at this difficult time. God bless! CEMETERY SERVICES CANCELLED Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus, we have decided it’s best to cancel the Cemetery Services here and at St. Declan’s Parish for 2020. You are most welcome to make a donation to the cemeteries if you wish.

NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

August 09, 2020

TAKE HEART! IT IS I! Are you under the impression as a mature Christian, that somehow if you really had enough faith, you would no longer be afraid? After all, Scripture says in 2 Timothy: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but a spirit of love, of power and of a sound mind.” Ah, but we are afraid aren’t we?

God bless!

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen. St. Alphonsus de Liguori

NOTE ON DONATIONS Many thanks to all of you who have continued to give to our Parish during this terrible virus. Many of you, even those who are not yet able to attend Mass, are still making their donations and we greatly appreciate it! We ask that keep us in mind if you are on vacation this summer. Unfortunately, our Parish expenses never take a holiday so we require your ongoing assistance. Thank you so much for your continued generosity and support in keeping our Church operating and beautiful!

MASK REQUIREMENTS: Please note that due to the new mask laws you will be required to wear one if you are entering the Parish Office. Kindly ring the door bell or knock and Susan will assist you.

A SIMPLE GIFT Isn’t it amazing how God meets us where we’re at? When He chose to save the world He didn’t develop a complex theory or intricate system. He reached down in love with one simple idea: “Whoever believes in Me has eternal life.” An idea so basic, so pure that we wandering, fallen children could understand. What a perfect Father we have to give us such a precious Gift in such an easy to open package. Choose simplicity this week, believe and live.

Sunday Morning Smile A couple with three children waited in line to purchase tickets for a boat trip to Alcatraz. Others watched with varying degrees of sympathy and irritation as the young children fidgeted, whined, and punched one another. The frazzled parents reprimanded them to no avail. Finally they reached the ticket window. "Five tickets, please," the father said. "Two round trip, three one way."

EVEN IN A PANDEMIC- SOME TRADITIONS DESERVE TO CONTINUE! The Almonte Lions Club will once again this year hold their annual gladiola sales. Usually, the 2 sale dates correspond to the cemetery memorial services of our local churches, often referred to as “Decoration Sundays”. Obviously, the inability to safely congregate means that the group services of remembrance will not happen this year. We understand that this has been a valued part of many families’ traditions, and we offer a way to memorialize your loved ones through this alternative:

1. Continue to order your flowers as you have in the past. Lions will call all those who have ordered in previous years, or you can call and order. 1-833-546-6725 (1-833-LIONS-AL), or through our Facebook page – search --- Almonte Lions Club

2. Pick them up either Saturday Aug 8th or Sat Aug 15th (8am to 11) at Blackburn’s Garage lot at the corner of Martin and Ottawa Streets.

3. On your own, within your family bubble, take your flowers to the cemetery and conduct a personal remembrance, keeping appropriate distance from others who might be present at other grave sites. Go whenever it is convenient for you.

4. OR, take your flowers home, and put them in a vase to enjoy and remember for several days. We can all hope that by next year, we will be able to join together in our church congregations to return to our regular services including these memorial services. Until then, let us at least keep this tradition alive. Please support the Almonte Lions Club.

TRAVELLERS PRAYER Heavenly Father, be with all those who travel during these days of summer. Let them be conscious of safety as they travel and bring them safely to their destination

and home again . During days of vacation grant refreshment of spirit

crowned with the joy of renewed fellowship with distant family and

friends. Remind all who travel that their small journey is but a faint echo of the

true journey of life, a journey back to you.
