Welcome to Heath High School – Class of
2019
21 credits needed to graduate from Heath High School.
• 4 credits of English• 4 credits of Math• 3 credits of Science• 3 credits of Social Studies• ½ credit of Health• ½ credit of Physical Education**• 1 unit of Fine Arts**• 6 electives ( fine art can be included in this number)
Physical Education Exemption
• Students must take 2 Physical Education (PE) Classes or participate in 2 seasons of Heath High School Sports or Marching Band. • You cannot combine 1 PE course with one sport.• No credit is given for the sport, so the student must make up that ½
somewhere else.
• If your child took PE 8 that will be counted as a High School Credit. PE is also a freshman/sophomore course. Students who say that they are playing a sport or are in band must do one of these their freshman year or sign up for two PE classes their sophomore year.
Art Requirement
• The state of Ohio requires students to take 2 semesters of art or music between grades 7-12 for graduation. 7th and 8th grade art and music do not count for high school credit, but meet the fine art requirement. • Middle School Students that take ART 1 will receive HS Credit.
• Students who are planning to attend college and/or earn the honors diploma should take 1.0 credit (2 semesters) of high school art or music.
Honors Diploma Requirements
• You must meet 7 of the 8 requirements listed:• 4 units of English• 4 Math including one beyond Algebra II• 4 Science including Chemistry and Physics• 4 Social Studies• 3 years of one world language or 2 years of 2 different world
languages.• 1 high school art• 3.5 GPA• 27 ACT or 1210 SAT
Things to think about……
• Art/Music – Have the discussion now with your child about this graduation requirement.
• Core classes – Regular or Honors• World Language – not needed for graduation, however 2 years of
same language is desired by most colleges/universities. 3 years of same for Honors Diploma.
• Industrial Tech courses• Music classes
• Women’s Choir• Men’s Choir• Chorale• Symphonic Choir
• PE class or exemption
• Resource Room – Determined by IEP Team/Teachers if needed
• Study hall – no more than one per semester
