WHAT CAN PARENTS & TEACHERS LOOK OUT FOR?

Increased Preoccupation resulting in Neglect of Self and Responsibilities

Use of technology becomes the most important activity over other interests and

daily activities such as attending school and your child’s sleep, personal health and

hygiene.

Changes in Mood

Through the use of technology, an emotional lift is received. In contrast,

restricting access to technology can lead to low mood or irritability.

Relapse of Behaviour

Tendency to fall back into same behaviour easily if underlying need is not

met.

Increased Time/Money Spent

Adaptation takes place and an increasing

amount of screen time or monetary spending is

required to get the same emotional lift.

Withdrawal Symptoms

Can be physical or emotional in nature e.g.

increased heart rate, restlessness, aggressive or anxious behaviour.
