THE IMPORTANCE OF FINANCIAL PLANNING AT ANY AGETUESDAY, MAY 19
It’s easy to think that a financial plan is only necessary when you need to make a big purchase or rearrange your portfolio. However, financial planning affects much more than your bank account, and a successful plan should follow you through all the stages of your life.
Don Rahn, CFP®, Wealth Management Advisor with First Point Wealth Management, will be discussing financial planning at any age. He will cover:
• Beginning your financial plan in your 20s
• Taking it to the next level in your 30s
• Building up your plan in your 40s
• In the home stretch in your 50s and 60s
• Planning during retirement
Whether you are looking for advice for yourself or for a loved one, we hope you will join us.
Our educational seminars have been a very popular First Point benefit. The purpose of the seminars is to help you make the best financial decisions, as well as to introduce you to the services we provide through Wealth Management. Reservations are required to attend the seminars, and space is limited.

LIFE-STAGE ESTATE PLANNING
Putting together an estate plan is usually last on the list of things you enjoy doing. Estate planning can be uncomfortable, but once the planning is complete, it can be a source of confidence. Planning is as much a service
to yourself as it is to your loved ones. Below are some helpful tips for you to consider:
Starting Out – Young and Single This is the time of life when the foundation for future planning is laid and the necessities and goals of a solid estate plan are learned.Action Step: The simplest parts of estate planning to establish are beneficiaries to life insurance and retirement accounts. A few simple documents can establish your wishes and give property to the most fitting parties.
Family First – Young and MarriedAfter you begin a family, a plan for your children’s future are of utmost importance.Action Step: To protect your children, parents should draft new wills to designate whom you would like to be legal guardians in the event both parents pass. Remember, if you do not establish a plan and make your wishes known, the state of Iowa has one for you.
The Empty Nest – Middle AgeAt this stage, a prepared middle-aged individual will likely be on estate planning auto-pilot. Action Step: With still plenty of time until you retire, you may consider planning out advanced methods of avoiding estate taxes in the future.
A Lot to Give – RetirementNow is the time you may want to use some of your retirement savings for travel or gifting to family members. An important step is to know your net worth.Action Step: A thorough appraisal of all assets will not only give you an idea of your retirement picture, but can also reveal any potential exposure to estate taxation. A simple appraisal of bank accounts, real estate, personal property, life insurance, and investments is a good place to begin.
