Course Description

The class will be an exploration of computer graphics and animation with applications in illustration and design.

Current trends in computer graphics will be explored.

Creative problems solving methods will be emphasized.

Learning Outcomes After completing this course, the student will be able to demonstrate competency in:

Demonstrate competency in combining traditional and electronic imaging.

Explain and understand the basic need for the computer illustrator and animator in the real world.

Demonstrate basic understanding and competency in the operation of computer software that produces computer illustrations and animations.

Demonstrate computer competency in the basic computer software tools required for computer image editing and manipulation.

Course Requirements

All students are expected to:

Complete all classroom assignments and exercises.

Successfully complete all competency tests and exams.

Demonstrate a basic skill in the use

computerimaging, editing and manipulation.

Keep a digital folder of all work generated and make color copies of best work.

Method of Presentation

Class time will be spent in lecture, discussion and demonstration of terms, concepts, current trends, and illustration concepts, on the computer, and skills over which students will be required to show competency.

Method of Evaluation

Evaluation of objectives based on the area accomplished by written tests, projects, worksheets and daily progress grades. All grades are separated into major and minor grades.

Major Grades

These will include art projects and written test. All major grades will be averaged and count as 60%

of the six week grade.

Project grades are photo collages, computer paintings, personal web page created in class.

The grades will be derived by originality, craftsmanship, presentation, and difficulty of the work.

Minor Grades

These grades will include a student folder and progress grades.

All minor grades will be averaged and count as 40% on the six weeks grade.

Progress grades will be given each day on the amount of work accomplished with in that time on specified projects.

Make-up Work

When a student has been absent it is that student’s responsibility to ask for the missed assignment.

All make-up work needs to be completed as quickly as possible.

Late Work

Late work will receive 10 points off for each class day past the due date.

Classroom ConductTo promote a positive learning experience for everyone in the class, the following guidelines should be followed.

1. Do not talk when others are talking, including the instructor or fellow students. Feel free to ask questions whenever you want, but private conversations not related to the class are disruptive to all.

2. Do not change computers unless asked to move by the teacher.

3. Do not read material unrelated to the class during class time.

4. No food or drinks may be brought into the class room.

5. Profanity is not tolerated in the class room.

6. Follow the rules in the student handbook.

7. Do not load any software onto the computers.

Discipline ProcedureIf a student fails to comply with the classroom rules or classroom procedure the following steps will be taken. STEP 1 Verbal Warning STEP 2 Student /Teacher Conference STEP 3 Telephone Your Parents STEP 4 Sent To The Principals' Office Step 3 and Step 4 may be reversed according to the circumstances.

Classroom Procedure

1. When you come in the room pick up any papers on the table by the door.

2. Go to your seat and wait for instructions.

3. Do not shut down your computer unless I ask you.

4. Log off at the end of each class.

5. Stay in your seat until the bell rings and replace the handouts on the table by the door on your way out of the room.

Academic Ethics Any form of disruptive behavior or

scholastic dishonesty, such as plagiarism or cheating, as defined in the Student

Handbook, will not be tolerated and may result in appropriate action.

Copyright Violations It is a federal crime to reproduce

copyrighted software and images.

PINE TREE ISDACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

Internet access is available to students and teachers at Pine Tree ISD. Our goal in providing this service is to promote educational excellence in schools by facilitating resource sharing,innovation, and communication. Pine Tree ISD firmly believes that the valuable information and interaction available on this worldwide network far outweighs the possibility that users may procure material that is not consistent with the educational goals of the District.

The smooth operation of the network relies upon the proper conduct of the end users who must adhere to strict guidelines. As a user you are required to make efficient, ethical and legal utilization of the network resources. If a user violates any of these provisions, his or her access will be terminated and future access could possibly be denied. A signed Pine Tree ISD Acceptable Use Policy User Agreement must be on file in the school office for any student or employee of Pine Tree ISD to access the district network or the Internet.

Terms and Conditions:

1) Acceptable Use - The purpose of the Internet is to support research and education in and among academic institutions in the U.S. by providing access to unique resources and the opportunity for collaborative work. The use of your access must be in support of education and research and consistent with the educational objectives of Pine Tree ISD. Transmission of any material in violation of any US or state regulation is prohibited. This includes, but is notlimited to: copyrighted material, threatening or obscene material, or material protected by trade secret. Use for commercial activities, use for product advertisement, or political lobbying is also prohibited.

2) Privileges - The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in a cancellation of those privileges. Network administrators will deem what is inappropriate use and their decision is final. Also, network administrators may close an account at any time as required. The administration, faculty, and staff of Pine Tree ISD may request the network administrator to deny, revoke, or suspend specific user access.

3) Network Etiquette - You are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of network etiquette. These include (but are not limited to) the following: a) Be polite. Do not get abusive in your messages to others. b) Use appropriate language. Do not swear, use vulgarities or any other inappropriate language. Illegal activities are strictly forbidden. c) Do not revealpersonal addresses or phone numbers of yourself, students or colleagues. d) Note that electronic mail (e-mail) is not guaranteed to be private. People who operate the system do have access to all mail. Messages relating to or in support of illegal activities may be reported to the authorities. e) Do not use the network in such a way that you would disrupt the use of the network by other users. f) All documents, data and information accessible via the network should be assumed to be private property

4) E-mail – E-mail, an integral part of the Internet, is a privilege that is offered to the users. They must use it properly. E-mail is not to be used during class time unless it is a part of school related activities. Attachments, chain letters, jokes, pictures and sending to large groups of people are easy prey for viruses and are not allowed if they are not part of an educational lesson.

5) Security - Security on any computer system is a high priority, especially when the network involves many users. If you feel you can identify a security problem, you must notify a network administrator or e-mail [email protected]. Do not demonstrate the problem to other users. Do not use another individual's account or allow anyone to use yours. Attempts to login to the Internet as a network administrator will result in cancellation of user privileges. Any attempts to bypass the districts network security, or internet filtering will result in the cancellation of user privileges. Any user identified as a security risk or having a history of problems with other computer systems may be denied access to the Internet.

6) Vandalism - Vandalism will result in cancellation of privileges. Vandalism is defined as any malicious attempt to harm, destroy or disable any part of a computer, data, Internet access, or other networks that are connected to the Internet backbone. This includes, but not limited to, the uploading or creation of computer viruses.

7) Updating User Information - Each student / faculty member will complete an AUP form. Only after the signed forms are returned will they be authorized the privileges described herein.

8) Exception of Terms and Condition - All terms and conditions as stated in this document are applicable to Pine Tree ISD. These terms and conditions reflect the entire agreement of the parties and supersede all prior oral or written agreements and understandings of the parties. These terms and conditions shall be governed and interpreted in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas, and the United States of America. Pine Tree ISD makes no warranties of any kind, whether expressed or implied, for the service it is providing and will not be responsible for any damages including loss of data resulting from delays, nondeliveries, misdeliveries, or service interruptions caused by its own negligence or your errors or omissions. Use of any information obtained via Pine Tree ISD is at your own risk. Pine Tree ISD denies any responsibility for the accuracy or quality of information obtained through its services.
