Cape Town, our gorgeous Mother City, is South Africa's mini­Hollywood, with Tinseltown's greatest flocking to her sunny shores forfilm shoots. Image courtesy of Getaway Magazine

Best we start searching for a prime location for CapeTown’s very own Hollywood Walk of Fame – especiallysince this August, our cinematic Mother City is filled to thebrim with Tinseltown’s finest actors!

Our star­studded guest list reads like an Oscar nomineeroll call – Claire Danes, Javier Bardem, Charlize Theron,Sean Penn, Penelope Cruz, Colin Firth, Sascha BaronCohen and Rebel Wilson have all been spotted out andabout on our glittering streets, between filming their latestprojects.

While Danes completes filming on the latest season onher hit TV thriller, Homeland, and Penn, Cruz, Bardemand Theron wrap up their dramatic collaboration, The LastFace; comedians Cohen and Wilson are shooting scenesfor their World Cup themed movie, Grimsby.

The dashing Firth is in town for the feature film “Eye in theSky”, alongside hit series Game of Thrones actor IainGlen.

In typical laidback Capetonian fashion, our locals barelybat an eyelash when casually running into these celluloidartists (except me – I’m a HUGE celeb stalker!) and this is exactly what makes the Mother City a desirable celebritydestination. Visiting stars can relax and enjoy our sunny shores, amazing bars and vibrant markets without beingmobbed by overzealous fans.

Our gorgeous hometown is no stranger to the camera, having been the star of Hollywood blockbusters Safe House,Invictus and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, as well as the set for the Katie Holmes and Meryl Streep feature, TheGiver. Having Cape Town as a sought after film location comes as no surprise to the Cape Film Commission, though.

“It’s hectic actually, it’s very very busy at the moment ­ it's keeping everybody on their toes. We’re just coming into filmmaking season too. But I think it’s just a reflection of how well thought of the film industry is in South Africa,” says theCommission’s Denis Lillie.
