Café Coffee Day launches ‘Shadows’- coffees inspired by Time

For every occasion of the day

Mumbai, 15th January, 2009: Café Coffee Day, the chain that offers refreshing moments to millions across the

country now launches ‘Shadows’ – Coffees inspired by Time that are all set to enhance the romance of the

brew; coffees for different times of the day.

Everyday, as our lives get more hectic, mornings merge into afternoons into evenings. Shadows sway as the

sun moves across the sky and we ignore their beauty. Café Coffee Day urges consumers to take a moment and

cherish the uniqueness that every moment of every part of the day brings with it. The connoisseurs of coffee

are once again tantalizing the taste buds and intoxicating the senses with the new range of coffees designed to

suit every meal, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The different times of a person’s day brings in different moods and feelings. Thus it is important that what we

consume by way of food or beverage suites that time of the day and enhances the experience and lifts our

spirits. It is observed that one tends to feel more energetic and refreshed in the mornings after a good night’ssleep; the afternoons usually tend to bring in a certain amount of fatigue whilst the evening sets in that mood

of wanting to be with someone/socialize and end the day with a healthy supper. Keeping these changing

moods at different times of the day in mind CCD has crafted a new range of coffees after detailed research.

The new range of coffees is available across the country at all Café Coffee Day outlets from 15th January

onwards.

Wake up and embrace the morning. Start your day on the right foot with a Morning Glory (double shot of

espresso, sweetened and spiced… on the rocks!) or a First Light (rich caramel sauce, espresso with a swirl of

cream), the perfect way to start your day full of energy and feeling coffee fresh. Compliment your long seeming

afternoons with a lunch and a Solar Eclipse (Cappuccino with spicy tones & Chocolate swirls) or the Summer

Breeze (Coffee on the rocks with milk foam). Now you can rejuvenate those long days with a Yellow

Caramellow (Coffee with rich caramel sauce & fruity banana flavouring dressed with whipped cream) or a All-

Day Refresher (Creamy cold coffee with the crunchiness of cookies). End your day with a Sunset Brew (Sinfulcombination of dark chocolate brownie with the richness of coffee). All these treats specially crafted for the

connoisseur in you.

Commenting on Café Coffee Day’s latest customer value initiative, Bidisha Nagaraj, President – Marketing,

said, "At Café Coffee Day we are committed to enhancing the coffee experience through continuous research

and development. The new range of coffees is a recognition of the fact that every mood and day part needs a

specialized brew both in terms of the ingredients as well as the end taste . These new Coffees are designed to

Tata Coffee joins hands with Barista

By Our Staff Correspondent

MUMBAI, JULY 25. Tata Coffee, Asia's leading coffee company and Barista Coffee Company,

the country's largest and fastest growing retailer of fine coffees, have joined hands to form Asia'sleading consolidated coffee player. The strategic partnership was finalised at the Tata Coffee

 board meeting here today.

Tata Coffee has acquired 34.3 per cent equity in Barista for Rs. 26 crores. This excludes the

ESOPs. Eight per cent of ESOPs will be granted over three years and Tata Coffee's holding will be coming down by 2 per cent after three years.

Barista's equity base will increase by a further 5.2 million shares. Initially the equity base was

Rs. 10 crores.

The strategic alliance consolidates Tata Coffee's position in the branded coffee segment andfortifies Barista's leadership in its experiential category. Given its early mover advantage, Barista

provides a strong platform in the coffee retail segment, which combined with the inherent

strengths of Tata Coffee, gives the company a unique competitive advantage.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/welcome-to-aroma-cafe 10/17

The association with Tata Coffee would contribute to strengthening the distribution network and

also provide access to alternative channels in the hospitality, airline catering and other allied

businesses. The alliance will result in backward and forward integration of the entire coffeevalue chain, allowing Barista and Tata Coffee to take ownership of the coffee category from

`bean to cup'.

This integrated player will look at a strengthened presence in the domestic market resulting in

considerable increases in operating efficiencies as well as market share. The strategic alliancewould also expand globalisation opportunities in the world coffee market. The alliance with Tata

Coffee is another step for Barista to reinforce its presence and create a platform that supports the

growth of the business in India and overseas through Tata's international joint ventures andnetworks.

Mr. R. K. Krishna Kumar, chairman, Tata Coffee said, ``This is an exciting new opportunity for

both companies. We are seeing the birth of a powerful new entity in the coffee industry with

unique strengths that will enable it to achieve market leadership.''

Mr. Ravi Deol, managing director, Barista Coffee Company said, ``Our customers are very

passionate about Barista, and we look at our alliance with Tata Coffee as a focussed commitment

towards providing them with a unique coffee experience, and to augmenting the coffee category

as a whole. With this alliance, we will leverage and fortify our core strengths, and consolidateour leadership in the coffee market in India and also create a platform for global growth.

Dear friend,

"Barista" refers to one who has acquired some level of expertise in the preparation of

espresso-based coffee drinks. Within certain circles, its meaning is expanding to include

what might be called a "coffee sommelier;" a professional who is highly skilled in coffee

preparation, with a comprehensive understanding of coffee, coffee blends, espresso, quality, coffee varieties, roast degree, espresso equipment, maintenance, latte art, etc. Stephen

Morrissey of Ireland is the current World Barista Champion. The word barista (plural:

baristi [masculine or mixed sex] or bariste [feminine]) is of Italian origin. In Italy, a barista

is a "bartender," who typically works behind a counter, serving both hot (such as espresso)

and cold alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Café Coffee Day is a chain of coffee shops in India having it's head quarters in

Chikkamagaluru, Karnataka.[2] A division of Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading

Company Ltd. (ABCTCL), it is commonly known as Coffee Day or CCD. It opened its first

cafe in 1996 on Brigade Road in Bangalore, and today has the largest cafe retail chain in

India - with 650 cafes in 110 cities. Headquartered in Bangalore, a majority of its cafes are

also located in Bangalore. The cafe chain has had much success riding, and to some extentcreating, the cafe culture wave that swept across metropolitan India following strong

economic growth resulting in an increase in youth spending power. It has even tied up with

WorldSpace and Microsense to enable its cafes with satellite radio and Wi-Fi, respectively.

Its first Wi-Fi cafe was opened on Lavelle Road, Bangalore.
