Elective Course Requirements

• The BSN degree requires 124 semester hours. If a student would have fewer than 124 hours on record after completing all other degree requirements (Required Core, cognates, major Nursing courses), the remaining credit hours must be obtained by taking general elective courses that are transferable to Appalachian. (Assumes that 30 sh of Appalachian credit to be awarded is counted toward total semester hours.)

• Students should ensure that planned elective courses are transferable to Appalachian before registering for the classes. Transferability may be checked through the Transfer Equivalency Course Search.

Transfer of Lower-division Coursework

• It is the student’s responsibility to identify, register for, and complete lower division coursework for the BSN degree before the last term of the program (Required Core, Nursing cognate courses, and any necessary elective credits).

• Dual enrollment at Appalachian and a NC community college or other accredited institution is allowed during the first two terms of the RN-BSN program. Students who take a combination of community college and Appalachian State University courses in the same semester and/or summer term may be eligible to apply for financial aid through the Appalachian Learning Alliance Consortium Agreement.

• A grade of “C” (2.0) or higher must be maintained on all coursework to be considered for transfer to Appalachian. A course with a grade of C minus is not transferable.

• Official transcripts of transfer work completed should be sent to the Office of Transfer Articulation at the end of each semester
