OUR ORIGINAL EXPERTISE
Milling
Milling is a swarf removal machining process that
can be carried out on different types of material:
soft and hard metals, plastics (POM, PTFE). The
material is removed thanks to a combination of
the rotational movement of the cutting tool and
the movement of the workpiece to be machined.
Almac high-speed milling machines can be used
to machine complex three-dimensional surfaces.
They are equipped with high-performance
spindles for carrying out very sophisticated milling
operations from blanks (billets) or bars.
Circular graining
Circular graining is a decorative technique used
in watchmaking, in which a surface is covered in
circles formed of very close concentric lines which
overlap to create a specific effect. This decoration
is usually found on a watch’s dial, main plate or
bridges.
Circular graining can be carried out using an
industrial process on numerically controlled
machines for large runs.
Almac offers complete circular graining solutions
with multi-spindle configuration, loading in
concurrent operation time and an automatic tool
resharpening system.
7
Guilloché working
Guilloché working is a decorative technique used
on watch dials and cases. Guilloché working
involves engraving crossed or interlaced straight
or curved lines.
Almac offers guilloché working solutions which
meet the requirements of the most prestigious
watch brands.
Diamond polishing
Diamond polishing is used to produce the very
shiny surfaces required by the watchmaking and
jewellery industries. Almac offers cutting-edge
solutions for diamond polishing of dials and
hands.
Engraving
Engraving is also a decorative technique used in
watchmaking to create patterns by cutting into
the material.
Almac offers solutions which can be used to
engrave sophisticated decorative patterns (brand
devices, logos) and enable sequential engraving
of the alphanumeric elements that identify each
individual piece.
8
TYPES OF APPLICATION
This is Almac’s traditional field of application, with
the company offering a wide range of parts and
machining techniques on its machining centres,
including guilloché working, circular graining and
engraving.
This means that Almac machines are perfectly
adapted for machining main plates, cases,
bridges, indices and links.
WATCHMAKING
Located in the heart of the region which has made
Switzerland famous in the micro-mechanics sector,
Almac’s machining solutions are perfectly adapted
for manufacturing small, complex parts.
Dedicated tools enable large or delicate work-
pieces to be clamped.
Our experience in this sector has also allowed
us to optimise operating procedures, which is
essential for the production of this type of part.
MICRO-MECHANICS
9
Demanding and highly sophisticated applications
involving hard-to-machine materials require
effective machining solutions.
Simultaneous 5-axis machining enables high-
precision milling operations to be carried out on
complex shapes.
Bar machining is also an ideal solution for this
type of application.
