Welcome to Alma 2019
Pictured are some of our new 2019 Kinder students
Dear Parents and caregivers,
Welcome back to 2019. I hope everyone has enjoyed their holidays and are looking forward to a fantastic year.
Let’s hope that the very hot weather may have moved on and we can be blessed with beautiful cooler days.
The children have started the year very settled and look happy to be back at Alma. Some for the first time through to
others for their last year. It is always exciting to watch our new Alma students in kindergarten begin their education
journey. They are usually so excited but the parents look a little sad as they realise their children are growing up.
On a personal level, I am very excited to return to Alma following my illness. It is amazing to come into the school and
be welcomed so warmly by both staff and students. I would like to thank the Alma community for the ongoing support
to me and my family over the past 16 months.
I look forward to catching up with parents and families as the year progresses. As you are aware, the beginning of the
year can be very hectic but if there are any concerns please let us know by contacting the school or myself.
We can’t solve problems if we don’t know about them!
New Staff for 2019
We welcome three new staff members to Alma this year.
Amanda Bell has been appointed to our school under the Rural and Remote Initiative and comes from Queanbeyan.
She has settled in well and is excited as she looks forward to her time at Alma
Renee Finch has been appointed for 3 days a week to assist with release and support in our school.
Brady Prescott has been appointed as a Rural Area Relief Teacher based at Alma Public School. While this role will see
Brady visiting all the schools in our district, we will hopefully see her often in our school.
We welcome these staff to our wonderful team and school.
Water
We are asking the children to bring their own water bottles to school, as the quality of water is not very good at
present. Each classroom has a fridge and water, which is available to all students. The canteen will have water available
to students who leave their bottles in the classroom when they come out for breaks. We are also asking parents to
donate water to continue this availability for the classes.
Uniforms
It was wonderful to see so many students in school uniform to commence the year. It is important to remind parents
that the girl’s uniform is the school dress or red and white check shorts and red top and the boy’s uniform consists of
grey shorts with the red shirts. The school sells the majority of these uniforms from the office. EftPos facilities are also
available for purchases.
Communication to Parents
We are able to communicate to parents through our newsletter but we also have our phone app which can be
downloaded. We send messages through to parents via the phone. Our noticeboard out the front of the school also
has messages that relate to the day to day running of the school.
P&C Meeting
Tonight at 6pm in the staffroom, the Alma P&C will hold their first meeting for 2019. All parents and caregivers are
cordially invited to attend.
We are all looking forward to a wonderful 2019.
Regards
Sharon DeGoumois

ALL WELCOME
The first P&C Meeting for the year is being held TONIGHT at 6.00pm in the staffroom. The agenda for tonight’s meeting has been sent home to families today along with minutes from the previous meeting. We would like to encourage you to come along. The P&C is a great way to meet other parents. We have a wonderful P&C and would love to see some new faces and your support would be very welcome.
Breakfast Club Alma Public School runs a Breakfast Club Program for students. Breakfast Club commences at 8.30am.
Our breakfast club is essential in providing nutritious meals to our students to prepare them for a day of
learning at school. The program has grown very popular among our students, their families and within
the community and is only made possible through generous support from our community. This program
is wholly funded and utterly reliant on the donations and support from the Broken Hill community.
Can you help?
We much appreciate any donations towards our school’s Breakfast Club program. Items may include
fruit juice, vegemite, bread, cereals etc.
Breakfast Club is also run by volunteers and is a great way to be involved.
If you are able to assist on any days, please call in and see the ladies in the canteen.
