WEEKENDS AND HOLIDAYS
MAKE THIS YEAR YOUR BEST YET
Each New Year brings with it a fresh
opportunity for reflection and growth in
every sphere of our lives. It is a chance
to enhance your personal wellbeing,
enrich your relationships with family and
friends, and improve your connections
with neighbors. Today is the perfect day
to begin living your life to the fullest. Pick
up that hobby you’ve been meaning to
try, adopt that healthy habit you’ve
been thinking about, or start saving for
that vacation you’ve dreamed of taking.
THE PEOPLE WHO MATTER MOST
Turning the page on a new year can also
be an opportunity to write a new chapter
when it comes to the people in your life
who matter most. Perhaps there’s a family
member you’d like to spend more quality
time with, or a friend you’d like to reconnect
with. Now is the ideal time to strengthen
these essential relationships.
SPREAD KINDNESS
The New Year provides an excellent
opportunity as well to spread kindness,
including to your neighbors here at
Normandy Towers. Extend a friendly "good
morning" greeting, hold the elevator door,
or offer to help carry groceries. Even a small
gesture can bring a big smile to someone’s
face. What a wonderful 2017 we will all have
if we treat ourselves, our loved ones, and
each other with kindness today and every
day. Here's to a New Year of opportunity!
Anita Lacey
Anita works at the University Hospital Geauga Medical Center and is proud of the fact
that she overcame many obstacles to complete her training as a nurse. She is an avid
reader who enjoys mysteries, dramas, romance novels, and just about anything in print.
She also likes to travel and would one day like to tour Italy and France. Anita’s friends
would describe her as loyal and honest, as well as spontaneous and adventurous. Those
are also great qualities that serve her very well in being a mom to her 8-year-old son,
Jayden. Anita moved to Normandy Towers just over 2 years ago. Having always lived in
a house, she was unsure how she would adjust to living in an apartment, but her terrific
experience here has completely changed her thinking! Anita loves the peaceful
ambience of Normandy, our friendly residents, and the cleanliness of our building and
grounds. She also appreciates our welcoming and helpful staff who, she says, "make
living here easy." Thank you, Anita, for being a part of our Normandy family!

The Euclid Public Library is proud to present
a monthly workshop dedicated to digital
photography. These interactive classes will
teach techniques for photographing live
action, landscapes, close-ups, portraits,
and more. The focus is on technical issues
(like when to use a flash), aperture size,
shutter speed and ISO settings, and also on
general principles like selecting a vantage
point and storytelling. Make sure to bring
your camera to participate in the exercises.
The next class will take place on Tuesday,
January 3, from 6:30-8:30pm, and future
classes will be held at that time on February
7, March 7 and April 11. The workshops are
designed for those new to photography,
but seasoned enthusiasts are welcome.

Tips for Better LivingPower Off and Tune In (adapted from www.cnn.com)
We all know that our loved ones deserve our undivided attention, but sometimes it's difficult to
resist checking our cellphone even while a family member or friend is talking to us. This
phenomenon now has a new name: “phubbing” – which means snubbing someone by paying
attention to your phone instead of to him or her. A new study by researchers at Baylor University
found that the typical American checks his or her cellphone 150 times each day, and that 70%
of people interviewed said that phubbing is impacting their relationships. Here’s a creative
solution: whenever you want to spend quality time with a loved one, pretend you’re on an
airplane that's about to take off. That means you’ll have to put your cellphone on "airplane
mode’" for at least 20 minutes. So, stow your phone, sit back, relax, and enjoy the conversation.
