Instruction Assessment done 1-2 times per year Developmental stages: emergent, letter name, within
word, syllables & affixes, derivational. Instruction differentiated for each student No longer memorizing word lists, but learning the
patterns which make up words Based on brain research: manipulation of the word
cards helps to solidify the learning of patterns and meaning of words (the brain is pattern seeking)
Word Study will take place during our Reading Block-great benefits for all students.

2. dissolving a solid in a solvent, 3. concentration and saturation of a
solution, 4. evidence of chemical reaction,
evaporation, and crystal formation
– Students gain experience with laboratory tools and techniques.
SCIENCE• Kit 2: Sun, Moon & Earth• Explore the motion of the
universe• Essential Questions
SCIENCE• Kit 3: Living Systems
– Explore the transport systems in multi-cellular organisms.
– Essential Questions• What are the basic needs of all cells?• How are materials transported to cells
in multi-cellular organisms?• What are the structures and functions
of the circulatory, respiratory, digestive and excretory systems in humans?
