My dear Parishioners, Today we arrive at the high-point of our observance of Black Catholic History Month with our Revival led by Fr. Roy Lee, Ph. D. This year’s theme is: “Under Spir-itual Reconstruction.” This is an apt theme well suited to our times. For, when you think about it, for the past fifty years — since Vatican Council II — the Church itself has been “Under Spiritual Reconstruction.” St. Pope John XXIII called the Council because he saw the Church lagging behind the times, unable to express itself and therefore to fulfill its mission in the world in a creditable way. He did not call for a change in Cath-olic doctrine; he called for a change in the way Catho-lic doctrine was proclaimed. The Second Vatican Council took giant steps in initiating those necessary changes, but the task was intended to take place over a period of time. Pope Francis, though he did not attend the Council, was deeply affected by it and consequent-ly, began living it even before he became the Bishop of Rome. Since his election, he has committed himself to implementing the teachings of Vatican II in the Vati-can and throughout the Catholic world. Building upon the foundation laid by his predecessors, he has an-nounced in his own inimitable way that the whole Catholic Church is “Under Spiritual Reconstruction.” Some Catholics have found this disturbing while many others have found it challenging. Why? Because, like Jesus, Pope Francis is reminding us that spiritual re-construction begins in the heart. “A clean heart create for me , God.” (Psalm 51:12) A clean heart is full of mercy, compassion, love. May this year’s Revival bring us closer to becoming the people envisioned by Vatican II and exemplified by Francis I. Fr. Jerome, C.P.

33º DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO 17 DE NOVIEMBRE DE 2019

Page 4

33º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

P. Luis, C.P.
